Funny Games by Michael Haneke
Very tense, and brilliantly acted. Its the story of a family held hostage by 2 men who bet them that they will all be dead by the end of the night. The films also appears to be critizing the manner in which violence is portrayed in film - here it is brutal and real, and more importantly, it shows the emotional consequences as well as the physical consequences. There is one particular extended scene dealing with such emotional consequences, which is really well done.
I couldn't get this film out of my head for days.
