Full size VHS camcorder used in Alien3! (1 Viewer)

I was watching Alien3 last night and noticed that during the scene where Bishop is trying to convince Ripley not to jump into the hot pool of death, one of the guys in spacesuits runs over to catch some footage of the event.

The camcorder he was using was a full size VHS, old school camcorder!?

What's up with that?

It's called not making the effort to make a truly convincing, futuristic set.

Something that Jack Briggs likes to point out was done in 2001.

Remind me, do we see the VHS logo? If not, it could easily pass for super-high-definition digital VHS, as we certainly don't see the output of it at any point. Its a visual shorthand anyway; we need to know that someone is videoing this, and if it didn't look like a camcorder of some kind they would need to tell us what it is in some other, distracting and slow way. I still want to know how Qui Gon speaks to Obi Wan with a Gilette Ladyshave in Episode 1 though
