what is this about newer dvd-audio discs? This is the first I've heard of this. I thought the 563a could play all dvd-audio discs.

I don't know anything about an update,I have about 50 dvd-a disc/sacd.This unit has played everything I've ever put in it,burned and all,even disc my $1k player won't recognize.

If you've had no problems, then you probably got one with the updated firmware. The disc that I eventually ran into that had trouble playing was the Crystal Method's Legion of Boom.

That said, any authorized repair center should have the firmware disc and the operation will take about a week. There should also be no charge for the update.

Guo beat me to it
The 563a has a free firmware update available from pioneer.
All you need to do is take it to your local authorized repair center and they will update it for free, many times while you wait since it only takes a few minutes.
If you have no local center, then you will need to ship it off since pioneer will NOT email or ship this firmware directly to the end-user.
There had been a very limited few of DVD-A discs the player had problems with that this update addressed.
