I was just looking on another site and they had a shoot out between MYhtpc,Snapstream,Sage and Showshifter.
now the only problem they had with showshifter was it did'nt have an integrated EPG.
now be cause I'm new to all this what is EPG and do I need it. Or do any of you have a better answer for my front end

thanks that answered my question about epg.
As far as your question I am not using a pc at the moment but I will be building a dedicated htpc.I want a mother board with p4 and hyper thread technology,
leaning toward silver stone atx case.
still researching dvd, sound cards, video cards, and water cooled versus fans but hopefully I will have a list of all the items I want for my htpc within a month or two.

DVD Players - Pioneer/Toshiba seem to be the more popular ones
Sound Card - M-Audio Revolution 7.1 (Highly recommended)
Vidoe Cards - ATI
Water cooled vs. fans is more of a preference than anything.
Other things to think of are quiet Powersupplies, case fans etc......
