"From Here to Eternity is the oldest title in the Columbia Pictures library that Sony has created a Dolby Atmos mix for. The film was originally released in mono,..."

Originally released in 3-Channel stereo.

You neglected to mention that the entire 1979 6-hour miniseries (pre- tv pilot) is also included on the bonus disc included in the hardcover book in the box, looking quite nice based on a quick check of the transfer.

The only two films in the Vol 3 boxset that aren't in Dolby Atmos are It Happened One Night and The Last Picture Show ...

That is considered a bonus disc exclusive to the boxed set. A summary review will be posted once I post all six movie reviews, as I have done with the previous two volumes.

I had always heard of the film being “possibly” 3-track, but have never seen any solid proof. An image of the marquis, and a mention in a review - along with widescreen - that would damage the correct 1.37 ratio.

I’m most interested in hearing what was done with Sony’s AI program toward a new 5.1.

It appears that with From Here To Eternity we have a blow up situation from 1.33 to 1.85 not totally unlike the 70mm blow up of The Cardinal among others to 70mm. No?

No. Any theatres that projected From Here to Eternity at 1.85:1 were likely cropping top and bottom of the 1.37:1 image on the film.

As for the film being in 3-channel stereo, it is possible (although the restoration notes indicate otherwise) and if so, that mix has likely gone missing like all but one reel of the original negative.

LOL that on the Capitol Theater's marquee, Donna Reed's billing was elevated to second after Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr's was listed last after Sinatra.

Not elevated it's just what fits physically next to Burt Lancaster. Looks like only twenty five characters can fit across each line on that side of the marquee. On the other side it's in the correct order.

That theater in NYC was I believe on Broadway and 51st Street. I think "2001" premiered there in 1968
