I saw over at Horrordvds.com that the Frighteners SE is set for release sometime in 2003. Has anyone heard anything about this? Will it be a port of the LD (i.e. Commentary, extended cut, four hour documentary)? Any info would be appreciated.

I hope so... I LOVE "The Frighteners". All Universal needs to do is put "From the Director of 'Lord of the Rings'" on the cover and BOOM! Instant fanbase that will buy it who have probably never seen the film.

I think it's just speculation. I'd love to see it though.

Yes, this would be a cool special edition. Good comedy/horror movie.

I have to wonder though, where is Jackson going to
find the time to do an audio commentary for an SE of
    The Frighteners?
Granted, it never ceases to crack me up, that he spent
his break from The Lord of the Rings up
with Lucas and McCallum watching them work on
Star Wars: EP2: Attack of the Clones.

I have been waiting for the SE ever since before I bought my DVD player! Reading the reviews and seeing the pictures from the extended edition made me want it so bad I can taste it. I hope if it ever does make it that Universal does the right thing and includes all the supplements.

I seem to remeber on the 1st of April that somebody (not on HTF), but somewhere else (cant remember which site), posted up that there would be a sp ed containing all of the laserdisc suppliments. That was great to hear, unfortunatley the date in which it was announced had something to do with the fact that it was a hoax[IMG]
Personally I love this film. Have the PAL LD and unfortunatley its a cut version without Jeffery Combs head exploding. Would love to get the Signature LD (do you see how much this set goes for on ebay[IMG] ), so I would more than welcome a SpEd DVD, but it better have all the LD extras or Universal suit's heads will roll.

I am certain this will see light of day on DVD since I was lucky enough to acquire one (via ebay, sort of) a few months ago on LD. Time marches on! I did not quite pay $230, but it was still well above sticker price, which was pretty steep if I recall [IMG]
It would be a very fun DVD, and the documentary is top-notch [IMG]
    Take care,
    Chuck

The ebay price usually hovers around 200. I've seen as low as 160 recently, and as high as ~220.

Actually, I just searched for completed auctions and they have all been going for over 220, as high as 240 recently. I must've seen 160 over the summer.
