I just saw fright night AMC last night and it was so good so I ran out to Best buy to get the DVD. This is a fun and great vampire movie. Does anyone know any other great vampires movies like Fright night? (I have seen the Vampires and Fom Dusk till dawn. Thanks for any info

The Lost Boys. A pretty good 16x9 enhanced Panavision presentation by WB and a decent 5.1 remix.

The original classic Nosferatu (the most recent Image dvd with new stereo score is well done).

Universal's Dracula.

I also concur on The Lost Boys. A much hipper flick than Fright Night, but just as good.

I also caught Fright Night last night. Oddly enough, I was flipping though the cable channels tonight and I came across none other than Fright Night Part II. I immediately wondered: Why do we have Fright Night on DVD and not Fright Night Part II?

"Fright Night" is the BEST! Roddy McDowell made

that movie!

I agree that "The Lost Boys" is just as cool!

Near Dark (1987) is a must-see. Unfortunately it's not out on R1 DVD yet, but it was recently announced.
And Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck (1967) is another great one, but also not currently on DVD.

Although not a vampire movie I would check out Ginger Snaps if you haven't allready. Just as much fun as Fright Night.I also seem to remember a vampire movie from the eighties with Jim Carrey as the vampire called Once Bitten that was similar to Fright Night. I seem to remember that it was good. All that I really remember is that when my friends and i saw it in the theater none of us knew who Jim Carrey was and my friends swore he must be the son of Dick York (from Bewitched) because they looked so much alike.

The only comparable "humor/horror" hybrid films from the same era that come to mind are "House" and "Evil Dead 2" - no vampires, though. Overall, my favorite combination of humor and vampires since Fright Night is the Buffy TV series.

I would second the recommendation for "Near Dark", but the other stuff I listed is closer to Fright Night in sensibility. I would not say that "The Lost Boys" was as good as "Fright Night", but it is not bad, either.

The dueling Werewolf films from 1980-81, "The Howling" and "American Werewolf in London" might be of interest as well.

If you like Fright Night, you may also enjoy Vamp--also a vampire film with a good dose of humor (and Grace Jones!).
My guilty pleasures in the vampire genre are the Subspecies series and Vampire Journals. All are straight to video from Full Moon Entertainment. Only the fourth Subspecies is available on DVD (the first three are rumored for DVD release when Subspecies 5 comes out). Subspecies also boasts a great vampire--Radu, who has a Nosferatu-like appearance. Vampire Journals is available on DVD. It is very stylish, great visuals and great music. Both Subspecies 4 and Vampire Journals can be found for as little as $7.99

Modern Vampires. The DVD cover makes it look like some cheap Blade rip-off, but it is actually a very funny vampire movie in decidedly bad taste (but oh so fun.)

Stephen Geoffries (sp?) who played "Evil Ed" in "Fright Night" did a short stint 'acting' in gay porn videos. It's true! I've even seen pictures.
Have to say it was a bit hard to believe...but there he was.

Right on! I do miss dear ol' Roddy so. He added class to every film he did.
Yep...For the longest while, I had a great idea for a Fright Night Part III in my head, but when Roddy died, I just let it go...

He was a very classy actor, and from all accounts a very nice person too.

Hi guys.
Maybe one day we could hope for a special edition to this classic film. With audio commentary from the rest of the cast. mike:)
