I was at Best Buy tonight picking up my $60 Sopranos Season 2 set, when I ventured into the Home Electronics section. Sitting there on a shelf was a DTS/DVD Audio display (more like a big cardboard box) with DTS brochures and FREE DTS/DVD-A CDS! Here's whats on them:
Fabulous Thunderbirds: Wrap It Up (DTS 96/24)
    Olivia Newton John: Xanadu
    Les Brown: Satin Doll
    Gluey Brothers: Hot Tina
    Larisa Stow: Invitation
    Toy Matinee: Remember My Name
    Steve Stevens: Flamenco A Go-Go
    Studio Voodoo: Fire (DTS ES)
    David Alan: Dangerous
    Tchaikovsky: Andante from Symphony #6
and its free. I got mine at the Cumberland Blvd store here in Atlanta, but it is probably a nationwide thing. Ask a clerk and look in the section with the receivers/tape decks/DVD players.
If this is better suited to the Bargains forum, moderators please move it, but I wanted everyone to see it.

Seeing as we don't have any Best Buys in Ireland, would someone be able to pick up an extra one?

best buy (at least in Miami) was advertising that you got this disk with the purchase of a new dvd player. They were not being given away at the couple BB's that I have been in.

DVDTalk is now saying (I checked over there this morning) that it is in numerous cities; I think BB in Miami may be doing something they shouldn't, since this is pretty much a DTS freebie, and I would guess they paid all promo costs.
It seems like some BBs around the country have the display and others don't; perhaps the others just haven't set up their display yet.

I haven't been able to find the disc at the Albany, NY BB (and the sales kids don't know anything about it). The new circular, however, advertises the disc (I think it's the same disc) as free with purchase of a JVC player. This goes back to what Andrew from Miami said earlier in the discussion.

I found some at the south-side Memphis store location. I grabbed one and a brochure. Won't do me much good unless I get a DTS decoder.
QUICK question, though (A or B answer): When the various decoders say they do "Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 Decoding", does it mean they can:
    A) Do Dolby in 2.0 and DTS in 5.1, or
    B) Do both Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 (or DTS 6.1 for those decoders).
I'm thinkin' "A" is the answer, but the wording is confusing. If no quick answers here, I'll ask in the hardware section, of course. Thanks.

    Mr. Lambert...
the answer is actually 'B'. In most or all cases when you see 'Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1' there are both DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 processors in the receiver.

RobLutter...cool! Thanks for the answer! Does this hold true no matter how inexpensive the unit is? I've seen some pretty cheap "Instant Home Theatre Kits" that boast the same wording I described.

    Thanks very much.

yeah... Home Theater in a Box systems are getting real cheap... for instance, you can now get the Kenwood HTB-504 which includes 5 speakers, a sub, and a Dolby 5.1 /DTS 5.1/ Prologic/ Prologic II receiver for about $375... this is the system I am definately picking up for college, it is still a good deal even if I throw the main speakers away [IMG]
hope that helps Mr. Lambert... Private Message me or give me an AOL IM if you have any more questions.

Yeah, DTS is the "new" thing on the block, so if it does DTS, it does the "old" DD 5.1 as well. [IMG]
The only units that would do only DTS 5.1 might be some stand-alone specialty unit (ie, expensive).
Lately 5.1/5.1 receivers have dipped below $300, not to mention those starter "in a box" kits.
