Review won't be up for a few days, but to tide you over: it looks downright terrific. (And yes, it is anamorphic.)
Great. Thanks for clarifying for me. Sounds like a new HD transfer given that the older R2 version "looked the same" as the 4x3 lbxed R1...

I'm in an "hold out for HD" mode but for less than $10 I think I might cave for this new 16x9 Stadard-def copy...

Amazon selling it for $10 bucks-I wonder if they think it is just a budget reissue-they were still using the VHS box cover art the last i looked...

It looked FANTASTIC on my HDTV!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt like EATING the screen it

looked so beautiful at times! Great job by 20th Century Fox!

But if you want a shorter answer:
An animorphically enhanced DVD will fit the movie image to your TV using the correct aspect ratio. It will do this weather it is an old 4X3 TV or a newer 16X9 HD screen.
