You mentioned in the chat, while a new PA would be released next year, the audio is a problem. I hope this does not mean that you could not find the original stereo tracks and have to stick with the crappy mixed down mono one. Is that it?
FWIW, I would NOT repurchase this new disc (even if it had all the trimmings) if it still had the shoddy mono track instead of the original stereo. I'd just keep my laserdisc for good. You could even go one better and remaster it in 5.1, though

I would buy a new special edition of this movie if it is released in anamorphic video. I agree I would like a new 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS soundtrack for this film. If they could do it with "Sound Of Music" I'm sure they could do it with this one as long as they had the originial sound stems. Please Fox rerelease this with anamorphic video & 5.1 soundtrack. I'll rebuy for that.

Perhaps the issue is with the original stems. If they were damaged or missing, I assume it would be a problem to rework for 5.1 sound. I hope Peter's reply from the chat indicates that POSEIDON is being worked now.

A 5.1 channel audio,DTS/DD will not help to improve the audio quality of the POSEIDON'S ADVENTURE.
There was a matrix surround release of this movie during the laserdisc time.
