The new network, dubbed My Network TV, will launch September 5 to fill the prime-time void for UPN/WB affiliates not making the switch to the CW. The first line-up will feature 2 English-language telenovelas. Other shows in development include a FOX News-produced crime newsmagazine, a game show based on a Britsh show, and a celebrity "Temptation Island" clone.

Interesting. A Univision-for-English prime time, then, basically? The name is a bit too wordy for my tastes. Hopefully it will allow some of the independents to stay afloat.

This is only for stations owned by Fox Television Stations, however.

I imagine Fox will take the money of any station that offers it.

Right now, yes. But they WILL be shopping it around to other stations that become independent after the UPN/WB merger. Right now, CW only has affiliation deals with stations owned by CBS and Tribune so FOX can't start offering their network until CW starts striking more deals so FOX knows which stations to go after.

I am sure the UPN channel 9 in NJ will go with them. They will be loosing their programming and affiliation to the WB station. Also, they are a fairly big station and in a major market. So you know they will be offered programming.

They can't afford another season of Arrested Development but they can do this?

Sure. I imagine a single half-hour episode of Arrested Development costs close to what a five-hour week of these telenovelas costs. We're basically talking about daytime soaps with somewhat better production values which are over by the time any cast member wants a raise.

WWOR is one of the 10 FOX-owned stations that will become MyTV affiliates from the launch.

They'll have a nickname and call it "MyTV" with a little "MyTV" bug in the corner of your screen and everything...I can see it now. Yuck.

MyTV has signed affiliation agreements with 17 UPN/WB affiliates owned by Sinclair, in markets representing nearly 12% of the country. Among the markets: Nashville, Vegas, Tampa, Cincy, and Pittsburgh. Full story (including all the stations in the deal) at http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=9485

If this a Fox station. Maybe, they can rectify an earlier mistake and bring back John Doe....at the least a movie to tie everything up. Yes, I know Dominic is in Prison Break.

Almost assuredly too expensive for this network.
