Yet another fine TURN OF THE SCREW/THE INNOCENTS adaptation could be released on DVD:
The 1959 FORD STARTIME THEATER (NBC) production of TURN OF THE SCREW, starring Ingrid Bergman (in her first dramatic TV appearance, and this role won her an Emmy for "Outstanding Single Performance by an Actress" in 1959-60), and produced-directed by John Frankenheimer (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ, THE TRAIN, SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, SECONDS, BLACK SUNDAY ('77), RONIN, etc). The program is of feature-film length, approximately 76 minutes.
Incidentally, the dialogue director on the show was future director Sydney Pollack (THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, ABSENCE OF MALICE, TOOTSIE, JEREMIAH JOHNSON, CASTLE KEEP, THE YAKUZA, etc), and the executive producer was Hubbell Robinson, who a couple of years later would launch the classic horror anthology series (BORIS KARLOFF'S) THRILLER. A commentary track by Frankenheimer & Pollack on a FORD STARTIME: TURN OF THE SCREW DVD would be pure gold.
The TV LAND network ran FORD STARTIME: TURN OF THE SCREW about 2-3 years ago (as one of its MUSEUM OF TV & RADIO SHOWCASE programs), in an acceptable-quality kinoscope. If Fox could get ahold of it, it would be an ideal supplement for an INNOCENTS 2-disc set; otherwise, it would make a fine stand-alone DVD from some other home video company (Image Entertainment?).
The kinoscope is archived at The Museum of TV and Radio (although I'm not sure if it's the New York or Los Angeles branch), and the rights still presumably belong to Hubbell Robinson Productions (or the estate of Hubbell Robinson).
