Concerning Peter Staddon's reservations about
the potential sales of any new Rodgers & Hammerstein Special Editions.
The "King & I" could use the great extra's that was a part of the laser disc edition.
If FOX would license the rights to package a 2nd CD soundtrack (like the one in the King & I laser disc) of the musicals then "double" disc sets might sell very well!
A double disc set of an Oklahoma! DVD (with a better transfer!), soundtrack CD, and small booklet (like MGM) or post cards of old lobby artwork would get me to buy again.
FOX could set a price that would be close to a Five Star, and could way under cut the price being asked for the Warner - CREATIVE DESIGN ARTS box sets.
Would any one else buy?

Yes I would re-buy all the R & H DVD films if they were re-released in 16:9 versions. The titles I am thinking of are South Pacific , The King And I, Carousel and Oklahoma!

If you love R&H, pick up the documentary
"Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of Movies".
A very nice 97 min. documentary that has interviews
rear clips and an overall good history of the R&H on movies.
It is my "extra disc" like the "extra disc" with the Monroe
or Kubrick box sets.

Yes, I will most definately buy The King and I, but I have yet to see the others mentioned. I will eventually get around to watching them, and If I like them, I would probably buy them, because I like a lot of Musicals.

I would buy "South Pacific" if the film were restored to it's original Roadshow length.
The same is true for "Carousel" and "The King and I" If Fox can find the cut songs and re-instate them or at least put them in a deleted section I would re-purchase these titles. Much footage shot on location for "Carousel" was re-shot on a studio soundstage.
Unfortunately Peter, I wouldn't buy them for anamorphic presentation alone. (What's up with the "Hello Dolly" DVD?)

If Fox could revisit them and give them the same treatment as the Marilyn Movies, I would be first in line to buy.
They really got shabby treatment the first time round.
They are all Classics and deserve a lot better.
So how about it FOX, the balls in your court.
(By the way, "The King and I" is Anamorphic in Region 4.)

Please, Peter Staddon. Clear your mind of all doubts of their sales potential. In a heartbeat I would buy remastered SE versions of:
THE KING & I
OKLAHOMA (70mm version)
SOUTH PACIFIC (especially the longer roadshow version, if it is possible to restore it)
CAROUSEL (with the Frank Sinatra footage or sound as supplements if they still exist)
State Fair (1945) is already an adequate disc.
