According to a post at DVD Journal, "Pretty Poison" and "Shock Treatment" are headed for DVD on September 5. I assume "Shock Treatment" is the follow-up to "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and not the Stuart Whitman/Lauren Bacall thriller. Does anyone know?

All I can say is, it's about time that PRETTY POISON is getting released on R1 DVD, especially considering it's never been released on VHS or LD. I'm glad I waited instead of picking up the PAL version.

The news about PRETTY POISON is very exciting. Now I can retire my VHS copy, which I taped off the gone-but-not-forgotten premium cable channel, Prism.

Pretty Poison, huh? Well, that's not surprising considering I just bought the Region 2 PAL disc about a month ago. [IMG] I wonder if the features will be the same, or if this disc will sport some new ones. The UK disc has a very good commentary with director Noel Black (with prompting and questions from a German film historian), as well as a deleted scene (with commentary) in script form, and a photo gallery.

From what I understand, Tuesday has never been a big fan of this film although most everyone else sees it as one of the crowning moments of her career.

Well Tuesday turned down lead roles in Lolita, Rosemary's Baby, and Bonnie and Clyde, so her taste in movies is a little off.

Wow, first "The Loved One" and now "Pretty Poison". This looks to be the year of the cult DVD. Can "Performance" be far behind?

Great News on Pretty Poison and The Other!!!....I hope they include the commentary track on Pretty Poison that they have on the region 2 DVD, if not I'll pick up the UK DVD.

Sean, Tuesday also turned down True Grit, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and Cactus Flower (which got Goldie Hawn her Oscar). I suspect that it's not so much her taste in projects but that she just didn't want to work.

I've got the Japanese laserdisc of that, which has one extra shot of gore in it during a monster attack sequence. I bet the Fox will be cut...but I'd love to be wrong.

On the DVD commentary, director Black indicates that he and Weld had differences during the making of the film concerning the staging of certain scenes. The director eventually "won out," but it could be said that Weld performed the rest of the film under protest (I think Black may have used this phrase on the DVD--I can't remember). With that in mind, it's quite a tribute to both director and star that the film and performance turned out so well. Unfortunately, Black was never able to duplicate this success in his subsequent features. Weld and Anthony Perkins were later reteamed in Frank Perry's unjustly obscure Play It As It Lays.

The UK edition of The Other is 1.33:1 open matte, so I wonder if the R1 will be the same?

The Fox movie channel has shown a letterboxed version in the past. My guess is that the DVD will be the usual Fox flipper, with a widescreen and open matte option.

Among a few more titles, Fox has finally decided to give this film its first digital release (it was never available on laser disc). To be released at the same time as another cult fave, PRETTY POISON.

Atmospheric, creepy, well-directed and with a modest but effective Jerry Goldsmith score, this is a very welcome release. Thanks, Fox!

Ah, if you could but add THE MEPHISTO WALTZ to these releases, I would be in Nirvana.
