With the release of the new Apes movie and the
revived public interest in the franchise, the time is ripe
for not only a re-release of the 5 feature films but a DVD set of the whole 1974 TV series. Is there any chance at all of our seeing that on DVD as well, perhaps in a simultaneous release to DVD with the current movie?

If I recall correctly from a documentary I saw, weren't there only a handful of episodes of the TV show?

This IS coming this year. I read on another forum a couple months back that it is planned for release in either October or November, I believe. The information was posted by the owner of the forum and it came directly from the studio, so it is legit. Unfortunately, a search did not come up with the post so I can't post the actual quote here or give the actual date, but it is on the schedule for this year.

Fabulous news! More excellent DVDs to buy this fall! Can't wait! Four of the fourteen episodes I've not seen since the 1970s.

announcement from dvdfile today
Well, it must be "prime the pump" day (see Matrix Revisited below.) Fox obviously has Apes fever, and have just announced a 11/20 street date for Planet Of The Apes: The Complete TV Series. This four-disc box set is presented in 4:3 full frame and English mono, and includes all 14 episodes of the acclaimed series. Disc one features "Escape from Tomorrow," "The Gladiators," "The Trap" and "The Good Seeds"; disc two "The Legacy," "Tomorrow's Tide," "The Surgeon" and "The Dragoons"' disc three includes "The Horse Ride," "The Interrogation," "The Tyrant" and "The Cure"' and finally disc four contains "The Liberator" and "Up Above the World So High." Extras include a still gallery and TV Spots. Retail is $49.95 for the set, and click on the box art image for a blow up.

Very cool. I hadn't considered this as on of my must own TV series, but at $50, I remember it fondly enough to pick it up - especially since it's a Fox release. This is a nice, unexpected surprise. Keep up the great work!
