This is just something I was thinking of. If you ask me, the original release has enough extras to make any fans of the film happy. Why give this title the 5-Star treatment when other films like Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Aliens, and Alien 3 need the treatment the most? Don't get me wrong. I'm happy that you guys are planning a better edition (hopefully with all the extras from the first edition as well!), but I, and most fans, probably don't want this to happen to FOX like the way it happened to Universal with their "Ultimate Editions." A new edition with only a few more features and trailers isn't worth the time of day if you ask me.

Since I've held off buying it, I'm all for it...I'd like to see Aliens, Alien 3, The Fly, and Predator get the 5-Star treatment as well.

According to some other sites, Predator will be getting the 2-Disc treatment next year. Three times a charm! [IMG]

Why not digitally remix Alien with the correct sound cues and dialog like on the DVD, but with the 70mm track's split surround activity (as on the Dolby AC3 LaserDisc)?

Then add 24/96 DTS encoding for the new 5-Star version??

Somehow this slipped under my radar. Has a 5 star been confirmed for Alien?

I think Alien meets the "Five Star" criteria, while the other films named (like Home Alone 2, or almost any sequel for that matter) don't.

This is not to say that there can't be extensive special edition discs for the other titles (see the Die Hard sequels), but I think the "Five Star" name is rightly being reserved for films that are not only successful and popular, but are also influential or ground-breaking or in some other way important. Say what you will about Independence Day, or even Cleopatra, they were important in terms of the films that followed, the studio itself or their impact on the popular culture. (And vice versa.) Die Hard almost single-handedly created a new genre of action films, of which the sequels are merely examples, entertaining, but not really much better than other attempts to imitate the original. So the first film is a "Five Star" release, while the others are virtually identical in terms of content, but don't share the "Five Star" designation.

    Regards,

    Joe

FOX needs to release a Sunrise: 5-Star Edition.

They could have Lowry Digital Images restore it for DVD, then add plenty of supplements such as commentaries, interviews, etc.

Heck, I'd be happy with a DVD just with a restored transfer!

Both Alien and Aliens need to be 5 Stars. I purchased the Lecacy Box and will gladly re-purchase these titles when they are released as 5 Star Editions.
