Suprised there hasn't been any new discussion related to this title being released later this year yet. There was an advert for it released just recently, and it's set for release some time this Summer.

No word on Special Features yet, but hopefully it will be a fully loaded 2-Disc set that's on par with Diseny's recent Special Edition/Platinum Edition releases. It may not be as well loved or critically acclaimed as some of the Disney Animated Features, but it holds a special place in my heart.

Let's also hope that the confusion about the film's correct aspect ratio has been cleared up as well. I'll even settle for what they did with 'Lady and the Tramp', Disc 1 having two versions of the film.

This year, Disney is no longer giving us all those gret catalog titles from the fifties and sixties.
We NEED the restored Pinocchio that the rest of the planet got and we need Song of the South. Instead we get ANOHTER DUMBO !!(why?) and now Fox and the hound - oneof Disneys worst.

Pinocchio will probably see the light of day in 2008 or 2009, unless the rumored release schedule for the Platinum Editions changes again and it comes out sooner. Being a Beloved Classic, it's certainly worthy of a 'Platinum Edition' banner, and I'd rather wait until Disney decides it's time to release it. Probably tied into a horrible sequel.

As for Dumbo, I skipped the last release and will be getting the new one for a variaty of reasons. Hopefully the image quality will be much improved over the last release. And while you may not appreciate Fox and the Hound, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be released on the 25th Anniversary for those of us who do. :p)

^ Mike, not dissing the movie at all...but my first reaction when I read this was "You have GOT to be kidding me".

of course I'll still get it, but that's besides the point [IMG]

I think most people that don't really like the film that much, will probably still buy it. Especially if it features some decent extras (hopefully a 2-discer) and is in the correct OAR. It seems to be the way of things, given the nature of the DVD collectors. I should know, I'm one of them. [IMG]

I hope it has a Tim Burton commentary!

Is that some sort of obscure joke I'm not familiar with?

No, "The Fox and the Hound" is one of the films Burton worked on during his short time as a Disney animator. He also worked on "The Black Cauldron". He was pretty low on the animation ladder there and he isn't even credited on either film.

They just need to get off their asses at Disney and get out the two disc "Lilo and Stitch" that is available in other regions...thankfully, I have had mine for about a year now and I love it more than the single disc version.

Glad to see this one...but others are needed over this I believe...

Does this also mean we'll be seeing the following 2 disc sets in the near future...

    Lilo and Stitch
    Treasure Planet
    The Sword in the Stone
    The Black Cauldron
    The Rescuers
    The Great Mouse Detective
    Oliver and Company

It just seems L/S and TP would have a higher priority over F/H.

Like he said, Burton was an animator on The Fox And The Hound and hated it. Part of his inspiration for his early stuff like "Vincent" and "Frankenweenie" was due to his frustration doing cutesy Disney films.

I doubt it. I love most Disney animated films (not counting lame sequels), and at least like alomst all, but this one is not only my least favorite, but definitely one that I do not like at all, and I won't be buying it no matter how impressive the new dvd is.

I think this was one of the Disney title most needed for a re-release. It was not OAR. Thats enough to warrant a revisit in my book.

I would definitely get it as long as it's done right. [IMG]

I'm sure this release has as much to do with the upcoming "Fox and the Hound 2" as it does the fact that the original came out 25 years ago this year.

Hopefully, we'll see OAR and substantial extras. Unfortunately, they won't even mention the main event which went on during this film's production and ultimately shaped the future of Disney animation: The Don Bluth Walkout of 1979.

I don't see any smilies or anything like that, but please tell you're joking.

Now that Disney's mined nearly all the classics for sequels, they have to go to the B and C level movies???

Sorry, Jason, I am not joking.

    http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0465997/

Of 44 animated films in the canon, only the following remain untarnished by sequels to date:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
    Pinocchio
Dumbo (sequel has been planned for years, however)
    Alice In Wonderland
    Sleeping Beauty
    The Sword and the Stone
The Aristocats (sequel planned for 2007)
    Robin Hood
    The Black Cauldron
    The Great Mouse Detective
    Oliver and Company
    Treasure Planet

One could assume that "The Three Caballeros" is a sequel to "Saludos Amigos".

Package films are not listed because there is no point in doing sequels to films of that nature.

IMO, anything is A-List compared to Chicken Little.
