Thanks for the heads-up Jon. I am fairly surprised about Straw Dogs, as it has not been in-print all that long.

I guess I might get Spellbound and Rebecca now...

I can at least make some profit on Ebay. [IMG]

I'm very glad to already own all of these titles. If you're at all interested in these titles, do yourself a favor and pick these up before it's too late. In my opinion, you won't be disappointed.

I have to pick up Spellbound, Rebecca and Straw Dogs. I hate when Criterions go OOP.

these are all must own titles for me, guess thats why i already have them. it was fairly common knowledge that straw dogs was going to go oop soon after its release, thats why i picked it up right away.

Of course, all of these titles will probably be re-released by what ever company now holds the rights in the not-to-distant future, minus the Criterion supplements.

Aren't these the titles owned by Disney that are in turn licensed (after Dec 31) to MGM, or am I confused?

I definitely need to pick up Notorious and Rebecca.

I see no reason to own Straw Dogs! But that's just my opinion! [IMG]

I think I'll have to track down the Criterion Hitchcock boxset.

I took care of the Hitchcock films a long time ago. Even though I had a copy of "Spellbound" that wouldn't play on my old DVD player (I had to watch it on my computer) I've got a new player now that it's just fine on so I don't have to worry about exchanging it.

I have no intention of getting "Straw Dogs" in any version.

I would encourage people to at least rent this Criterion release before passing judgment on this film. Stephen Prince's excellent commentary and the supplementary materials make a persuasive case that this film has been unjustly maligned as one that glorifies violence. Both Prince (and Peckinpah himself) argue that the film is criticizing violence (in the backdrop the Vietnam War).

This is one of Criterion's best and most important releases of the year (and this from someone who abhors gratuitous violence).

Man, replace 'listen to a commentary track' with 'rewatch in one damned long viewing session' and I'd agree with that statement 110% as it relates to another film. [IMG]

Just placed an order on Straw Dogs. Own the Hitchcock titles for a long time now.
