I saw a thread in the HT Software- Film & Documentary forum about films with anniversaries in 2006, and that made me realize that 1966 saw the debuts of four of the most lauded cult TV shows of all time:

    Batman
    Dark Shadows
    The Monkees
    Star Trek

With the startling exception of Batman, the other shows are well represented on DVD in boxed sets with extras. Each show has a lot in common: all had relatively brief lifespans in their original network incarnations; had huge teen followings, thereby insuring them as 'baby boomer' classics; gained contiuned popularity in reruns with succeeding generations; and are the subject of countless fan clubs/conventions/websites and even primetime revivals.

Also, let's not forget the 30th Anniversary of Charlie's Angels
    Laverne & Shirley
    What's Happening
    Wonder Woman
    Quincy
    (all on DVD!)

and a big 50th Anniversary to:

    As The World Turns

Add "The Rat Patrol" and "The Time Tunnel" to the list of shows that will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2006 and, coincidentally, will have DVD releases in early 2006.

Let's not forget "The Green Hornet" as well. "Mission: Impossible" also debuted in '66. If I could revisit but one year to view episodic tv in a tele-fantasy /sci-fi vein, it would be this one. In this one year we had:

    Lost in Space
    Dark Shadows
    Star Trek
    Batman
    Green Hornet
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
    The Time Tunnel

That Girl, which Shout! Factory just acquired, is also celebrating the big 4-0 next year.

Of course, I wish I could celebrate ALF's 20th with a DVD marathon, but thanks to Lion's Gate that's out of the question.

How about let's hear it for some great one-season sitcoms that premiered (and ended) that year:

    He and She
    Love on a Rooftop
    Occasional Wife
    Run Buddy Run
    Pistols and Petticoats
    The Hero
Hey Landlord (Garry Marshall's first series)

and a couple of great dramas, T.H.E. Cat and The Man Who Never Was.

He & She is one of my 'most wanted' shows for a DVD release- way ahead of its time!

How could I have missed T.H.E. Cat?! It's near the top of my want list! Somehow, I thought it debuted in '67...

I was just chuckling to myself thinking how 99.9% of the people on this forum haven't the slightest idea what these shows are or how good they are.

Other than the posters on this thread and Harry, I can't think of many more that would.
