I don't know what to think of this but over at the AVS forum someone mentioned on the subject of Gump's lack of surround that there are 2 pressings of this movie, one is faulty and the other uses much more use of the surround channels. The one that is faulty makes small use of the surrounds kind of like everyone here keeps complaining about. Could this be possible? OTOH I've heard from lots of other people Gump naturally sounds this way. Does anyone have any idea which of these could be fact?I really would like to get this disc but if there is a faulty copy I would like to make sure I got the right copy. Thanks.

They are absolutely right, make sure to get a copy that has the D2R2 designation on the inner rim.

I think you'll need a magnifying glass to read that code though.

    Mike_S is right about that.
Robert, I can't see a "D2R2" designation on mine. What will a *bad* one say in it's place, so I know I'm looking in the right area?

Can we get Martin Blythe to comment on this? Has anyone emailed DVDFile or the Bits?

There were a lot of numbers around the rim of my Gump DVD, but one said M1S2.......I haven't watched the movie yet, but all the supplemental features had surrounds usage. Is this the proper DVD? I hope so, because I got it through DDD and don't want to have to wait while it gets shipped back.

Guys, RObert was being sarcastic, referring to the Jurassic Park issue. Forrest Gump was never a movie extremely active on the surround channels.

Is this a joke or what? GUMP never had an aggressive surround track, but I was surprised at how little surround use my copy had. It hs the M1S2 code on the rim.
Can we have some FACTS please? Where is this info coming from?

Ok, now I get the joke. I remember something about D2R2 being around the rim of one of the JP dvds or something. That really isn't very funny though, since most people (like me) who never bought the DTS JP in the first place will take it seriously. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH ANYBODYS FORREST GUMP DVD AUDIO, IT'S ALL FINE JUST A JOKE BY A THOUGHTLESS PERSON.

Actually...when the AC3 LD came out..there was a lot of mention about the lack of an active surround mix.
    Ummm....ahh..just wanted to say that!

I am POSITIVE that when I saw Forrest Gump in the theatre, there was this part where Forrest cut right into his mama's brain and ate it. I think they cut out the part where the knife goes into the brain. On the DVD, it goes right to the scene when he says "Life is like a brain, you never know what you're going to get".

Okay, guys, let's all take a deep breath.
Gump has a front-heavy sound mix. Case closed.
