[IMG] With no word on a forthcoming (region one) dvd release of one of my favorite movies, The Ninth Configuration, I broke down and purchased the widescreen VHS tape. I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself! Before you ask, I don't have a laser disc player so the ld edition is out of the question. I feel really bad, but I just had to see this movie in its OAR. I just couldn't wait any longer. Is there some kind of penance I should pay? I feel so guilty... [IMG]

I don't think you sinned at all. You wanted to watch a favorite movie in its OAR. And you did it. Some people might disagree but its about the movie, not the technology that you watch it with.
I don't think I'm a sinner every time I watch my VHS of Strange Brew. A hoser maybe, but not a sinner.[IMG]

It's only a sin if you watch it in pan & scan. [IMG]

I'd love to have a multi-region dvd player and a laser disc player but that's out of the question due to financial constraints. [IMG] Besides, with my luck, now that I've bought the VHS edition of TNC, I'm sure an R1 dvd release will arrive shortly. I wouldn't complain though; I just got done watching the tape and even though letterboxed, the image is still cropped. TNC was shot in Panavision which is I believe, 2.35:1. The widescreen VHS edition presents the film in an aspect ratio of 2:1. Apparently, this was Blatty's decision. What's the aspect ratio on the UK dvd release? Just curious.

No need for anyone to punish you, you've punished yourself. About the second time you watch this there will be noticeable deterioration on the tape. Then, about a year from now when you really, really want to watch it, the tape will jam in your vcr and be completely ruined.

There is a Region 2 DVD of this film? I was about to buy the letterbox VHS myself, and for those who wish to bash him for buying the VHS, maybe if somebody actually were convinced to give this flick a chance, it might be popular enough to show up on Warner's radar, as it is, everyone ignores it. Also, why buy an LD player at this point? For e decent one, you'll be paying over $200....just think how many DVDs that alone could buy, much less the price of a higher end LD player....

No sin my son. I had to do the same thing with Back to the Future. I may have to do the same thing with Parts II, & III.
