Regarding the Tartan release of the Umbrellas of Cherbourg - is this a rerelease of some kind? That title has been available from Tartan for some time now....

Novemeber Criterion slate (from Image Ent):

8th Nov 2005:

Ugetsu (Mizoguchi, 1953) Criterion

22nd Nov 2005:

Ran (Kurasawa, 1985) Criterion

Tales of Hoffman (Powell & Pressburger, 1951) Criterion

Not sure why Criterion have dropped 'monogatari' from the Mizoguchi, but it and Hoffmann are still essential purchases for me.

Hi,
I have updated the Beaver calendar HERE with many new updates including some listed here:
(APOLOGIES IF SOME HAVE BEEN MENTIONED !)
PARTNER on October 25: this is another NoShame double disc set (as per THE DEVIL IN THE FLESH) and it is a major Bertolucci work from his best period (it was made just before his "breakthroughs" with THE SPIDER'S STRATEGEM and THE CONFORMIST).
CET AMOUR LA, directed by Josee Dayan, starring Jeanne Moreau, New Yorker Films DVD, November 15.
THE DARK CORNER on December 6 and WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS on December 6; both part of the Fox Noir series (WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS is one of the best of Preminger's noirs after LAURA) along with KISS OF DEATH (also released on the same day). THE DARK CORNER is fascinating, it has a starring role for a pre-TV Lucille Ball, and it also was the followup film for Clifton Webb (after LAURA).
NEXT STOP, GREENWICH VILLAGE is another really cheap Fox release, as per HARRY AND TONTO, and it's another Paul Mazursky comedy, one of his best, and that's due December 13.
MA MERE, a TLA release, directed by Christophe Honore and starring Isabelle Huppert and Louis Garrel, based on George Bataille; release date: October 18
An Amazon.com special: THE FOX FILM NOIR COLLECTION on November 1, with nine titles (CALL NORTHSIDE 777, HOUSE OF BAMBOO, HOUSE ON 92nd STREET, LAURA, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, PANIC IN THE STREETS, SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT, STREET WITH NO NAME, and WHIRLPOOL). It's 36% off list price, and if anyone hasn't gotten these titles, it's a great deal.
SCARLET STREET, remastered, Fritz Lang, released by Kino on November 22.
Best,
Gary

Optimum UK are going to be releasing all the Ghibli films in packages that look awfully similar to the Japanese releases. A flyer with their release of Nausicaa shows the following as forthcoming (release dates from Play.com):

Howl's Moving Castle (no date)

Kiki's Delivery Service (no date)

Laputa Castle in the Sky (27/02/2006)

My Neighbour Totoro (27/02/2006)

Only Yesterday (01/05/2006)

Princess Mononoke (10/04/2006)

Pom Poko (27/02/2006)

Porco Rosso (01/05/2006)

Whisper of the Heart (10/04/2006)

Optimum have already released Nausicaa and The Cat Returns as single disc releases and Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies as double disc sets.

There are already UK R2 discs of Mononoke and Kiki from Buena Vista.
