I'd be interested to see what the transfer is like on the R4 version of Lovers of the Arctic Circle. I currently have the Tartan R2 UK version which is pretty poor and unfortunately the gorgeous Spanish R2 is OOP (as is the Medem boxset incidentally). Here's hoping they've licensed the Spanish transfer...

I'll second that... but if by 'gorgeous' you mean the blurry Soqepaq (Spanish) DVD, it is inferior to the Tartan. see HERE. Lets hope the R4 is a big improvement over both.

My apologies - I assumed that since the boxset was of high quality then the single release of Lovers would be similar. I'm glad I never made the effort to track it down now!

For fans of Peter Weir's "Picnic at Hanging Rock", there is a new 16X9 verion out tomorrow (June 22nd) in Germany from Kinowelt. You can see screen captures compared to the Criterion HERE.
It is 1.78 and slightly cropped but sharper than the Criterion.
