Firstly a Big Thanks to Pascal for running this for so long. His dedication and commitement in the past are extremely appreciated by myself and many many others.
and thanks to you Donald for taking over a task that is often never thanked enough for the amount of work it takes to maintain. ( and congrats on your 1000th post !!! )
I don't have anything to add to the list right now, but I will try my best to help out with occasional posting of what Foreign Films I find are coming out in the future.
Regards,

Thanks Pascal & Donald! You can count on me for any weird French stuff I come across.
BTW, Jules and Jim (Truffaut, France) Tartan [DVD-R2 (UK)] which is listed as a 1/22 pre-order has been available for the last year from MK2 (France) with English subtitles on the movie and all the supplements including te commentary track. Highly recommended as is the box set it is part of.
I don't know if it is within the scope of this thread, but it also might be useful for people to report on transfer, etc. quality of discs that have been listed here and they have ended up purchasing/renting.

yeah, it would be nice if anyone who actually gets the discs mentioned to post even a small review of disc quality (we can get film elsewhere).
On this matter, has anyone got the Artisan release of Von Triers Breaking the Waves? It seems to be very cheap (~£7). Also, has anyone ordered Facets Close-Up disc? It'll cost me almost $40 US for that shipped to the UK, which makes it the most expensive disc I will have bought bif I decide to get it (along with Brazil).

Like Ted pointed out, it would really be a good feature to post quality of transfer, sound, subtitles and extras of discs once someone got them.
Also, I think they should be stored somewhere - I would be willing to offer a www-page where we could store all that information in order to be able to easily look for titles and their quality - any opinions on this?
Sebastian. :)

Thanks for taking over the list, Donald; it's very much appreciated.
Amazon has finally posted the DVD cover for the 3/5 release of Electra and it is, indeed, the 1962 Michael Cacoyannis film with Irene Papas. :emoji_thumbsup:

Breaking the Waves is so-so, not great but not horrible transfer wise. Given that it is one of the best films of the 90's and so cheap, it's a no brainer purchase, imho.

I was just dreading the box specs being wrong and ending up with a VHS quality P&S transfer.

Breaking the WAves woudl proabably be a good film for Criterion to license since they seem to have a good relationshio with Artisan.

Donald-
I see that Light Sleeper is on your list. Do you have any details on this DVD as the one that is already out is full frame. I'm dying to get this on DVD but only OAR. Thanks.

I wish I knew, Jay; I haven't found any detailed specs for it. The first release doesn't seem to be out of print, so hopefully this new edition will distinguish itself by having a widescreen presentation.

A couple of rumoured R2 UK titles:

Delicatessen - 19/04/02

Devil¹s Backbone, The - 25/03/02

These are obviously rumoured dates only - perhaps add to the 'in the works' section with the date in brackets.

Well I just found out at DVDfile that Light Sleeper is simply a re-packaging of the earlier full franme DVD. I guess I can strike it off my "DVD's to pre-order" list.

Would be great if Delicatessen comes out in England. Be nice if they'd pick up the Doinel box and sub the extras.

Thanks for the tip, Walter!

Gohatto is a wonderfully entrancing film and the all-region DVD edition that's currently available from Hong Kong is of pretty decent quality, but this review indicates that the upcoming R1 disc will surpass it. It's odd that review copies would have been sent out already when this disc isn't even being solicited for preorder yet.

Okay, mystery solved. I emailed Glenn Erickson to ask if knew what the release date for Gohatto might be...it turns out this DVD is from Canada and is already available.
It would seem Glenn's copy was obtained throughLink Removed, but I imagine other Canadian vendors should also have it.
