This is the system that I bought:

Panasonic SA-XR25 6.1 receiver $236, taxes included.
Hsu Research Ventriloquist VT-12 6 speaker system $210 shipped (New on Ebay)

Total $446

Add the Dayton sub from Partsexpress.com and you have a great system for less than $600!

I added an SVS 25-31CS sub plus plate amp from Partsexpress.com. The system sounds great! Reviews on all of these products have been very high.

When the SA-XR70 comes out, I may upgrade to that.

I must say I'm very intrigued by this Hsu system. I'd love to check one out.

One advantage is that the speakers are small so you can mount them on a wall simply by screwing in a screw and hanging them. For those truly on a budget, saving money on speaker stands is a big plus.

If the speaker system is 6.1 then why did you have to buy a subwoofer?

Oops,..I meant that the receiver is 6.1. The HSU system is a 6 speaker system consisting of 1 center and 5 satellites.
