Hmmm, it was a deal of the day, but I guess they're extending the special.

only thing is you would have to mod it or EQ it to remove the bass boost if you want truly flat response. I'm guessing they put them on special because they aren't selling well because most DIYers don't want to have to try to compensate for the boost.

Regardless, if you're someone who's comfortable making the mod, then it's a great amp for the $$, or if you're building a small sealed box, the boost would probably be helpful.

I bought one after the last sale PE had when it was a hundred dollars. Anyone who bought one then know if the bass boost is still on?

796's have the bass boost - about 4.5dB at 31Hz
794's have flat response and then roll off for the rumble filter

Oh good. I just checked out the label on the box it is (still) sitting in and it has a BIG "300-794" on it.

Great, now I dont need to mod it when I eventually get a second Tempest.

Bah! One week after I decided to 'upgrade' my order to an Adire AVA250... man, I could have saved some good scratch with that deal. [IMG] Oh well, whatevs... I'm happy with the Adire anyway.

The 120W amp is also on special $89.95 and it says free shipping for this item. The 250W amp without the boost is $119.90 and also says free shipping. Don't know how long this will last though.

Now I am wondering whether the 120w would be enough to power a SVS 22-31 in a 14x17x9 room or would I see an even better increase in performance going with the 250w? I am using 1 channel from my HK 5800 and I think it would be relieved of the stress that the sub is putting on it right now. If anyone knows, by having my sub as well as my front stage hooked up to that amp (85wx5) am I putting the amp through alot of strain?

A dedicated sub amp would make a big difference with that SVS. The 120W one will be a huge step forward and the 250W one a little better than that.

Does anyone know if this amp would be a good replacement for the 250 watt amplifiers that tend to die in the infamous JBL PSW-D112?

Yes I used one to replace my JBL amp, you will have to make hte cutout for this amp larger.

Hmmm... how about a dedicated amplifier for a tactile transducer?
