Thanks for thinking of us greasy spawn....

I have a small plush Cthulhu sitting on the dashboard of my truck.

I also have the plush Nyarlathotep. I wish someone would produce a plush shoggoth, but that site only shows as a drawing.

I also have a Summer Fun Cthulhu which that site doesn't show.

For years I have pondered what could possibly surpass the warped horror & mind bending evil that The Old Ones embody.....I have my answer.

    Summer Fun Cthulhu.......the horror....the horror...

I don't know Kevin. I've heard rumors about a Malibu Beach Temple Shoggoth, but anyone who has looked for it has gone insane.

    Your madness may vary.

Actually Kevin "Ka-Thoo-loo" is Klingon for 'which way to the toilet?'
And "Ka-Ka-Thoo-loo" means 'I'm going to shit on you if you don't direct me to the nearest lavatory'.

    Julie,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but do you have any children? For my own peace please tell me there isn't a 3 yr old out there whose nightly bedtime stories consist of Dunwich Horror and Pickman.

No Joe, I do not. Praise Cthulhu! I have not and will not produce hideous greasy spawn of my own.

But your fears are well founded. I most certainly would read HPL's works to an impressionable 3 year old. You probably don't want to know what movies I'd consider appropriate, but I do believe it would be the Lovecraft that would forever warp the child's mind. I'm not joking, either.

(There's a fun novel based on that idea - a guy got Lovecraft stories read to him as a kid and now he sees Cthulhu, Azathoth, shoggoths, etc at his workplace. He stops seeing them when he's on medications, but that causes other problems. Check out 'Resume With Monsters' for a fun read.)

That's a nice, high-level description of the Mythos.

I generally say something along the lines of 'kthoo-lu' with k and th sounds being part of one syllable, instead of the 'ka-thoo' sounds that Chaosium suggests. I save the hairball hacking for the frenzied dances around the fires and sacrifices.

But I have heard the correct pronounciation in a movie: "Out of Mind: The Stories of HP Lovecraft". It's got a guy playing HPL (and he looks remarkably like him) saying Cthulhu properly. It's actually quite a strange and eldritch sound, rather like HPL intended I suppose. No hairballs, though.
