i have FOCUSfilm's "An Evening With Sherlock Holmes". i really like the titles offered in this collection and the artwork on the cover of the discs, but the transfers are about the worst i have seen. There have been other announcements of these titles. Has anyone seen them? and might they be a bit more "cared" for than what is offered in this package?

From what I understand, all of the transfers for the public domain Rathbone Holmes titles are wretched. There is talk of the films being restored courtesy of Hugh Hefner, but Warner Brothers now has the rights to the Sherlock Holmes films so that means it may be a long wait before we see these on DVD. I would stick to the Key Video releases of these films for the time being; some of them were released to laserdisc as well. The transfers aren't perfect, but they're adequate and certainly better than the Public Domain DVD's. The Key Video and Laserdiscs do turn up on eBay frequently, but they tend to go for major bucks.
