French audio brand Focal has unveiled a new set of reference headphones, the ‘Clear Mg’. Replacing the former ‘Clear’ headphones as the company’s reference open-backed cans, the Mg will provide even “sharper” audio than its predecessor, while the price remains at $1,490.

The company says that the new product is the result of four years of R&D, with a new ‘M’-shaped magnesium dome created for the Mg’s speaker drivers. This promises to provide more “lightness, rigidity and damping” in performance and enabling a more realistic sound. A light and flexible surround should deliver greater precision and impact, while an impedance of 55 ohms means the headphones can be used with a portable audio player.
