How is Olive with their releases?

The only complaint I ever saw TV-wise was that they encoded the discs so shows that were originally 1.33:1 had to be watched that way and couldn't be stretched out incorrectly to fill the entire screen.

If that's the only "problem" they've had, making sure shows are watched the way they were intended to be seen, I think they're doing okay.

/no complaints with shows like King of the Hill and Hooperman.

Ah...I had forgotten Hooperman was released by Olive although it was regular DVD. I was satisfied with that release. I am looking forward to owning Flipper on Blu ray.

That's good news. I wonder if they'll give us the long stalled S3?

This is such great news and I'll definitely be buying the Olive Films' Blu-ray releases of the first two seasons of Flipper.

I already have the first season of this classic NBC 1964-1967 television show on DVD thanks to MGM and 20th Century Fox.
Unfortunately, all four discs from that Season 1 DVD release are double-sided flipper discs.
I've never liked double-sided flipper discs.

MGM then shamefully decided to release Season 2 of Flipper on DVD-R's.
I have always refused to buy a copy of MGM's Season 2 eight-disc DVD-R set. I despise DVD-R's.
My opinion is that single-sided factory pressed DVD's are far superior than DVD-R's.
I've heard that single-sided factory pressed discs last for many decades longer than burned discs do.

I bought the DVD-R releases of seasons 1 and 2 of The Courtship of Eddie's Father directly from WBShop back in 2012,
but, both of those Warner Archive DVD-R sets contained numerous defective discs.
As a result, I threw both of those DVD-R sets into the trash can with so much force.
Those are the only DVD-R releases that I've ever bought and I'll definitely never be buying any DVD-R releases again.
I've refused to have anything to do with Warner Archive ever since.

Thanks to Olive Films, Season 1 of Flipper will soon be available to purchase on single-sided discs for the first time.
Thanks to Olive Films, Season 2 of Flipper will soon be available to purchase on factory pressed discs for the first time.

It infuriates me that Season 3 of Flipper will most likely continue to remain unreleased for quite some time yet to come.
The reason for Season 3 continuing to be unreleased is a mystery.
It's such a travesty that the original Flipper TV Series hasn't yet been completed on factory pressed Region 1 discs.
I'd much rather watch this amazing, adventurous and unique TV Series than any of the TV Series' from today.
I hope that MGM never releases Season 3 of Flipper because it would obviously be a DVD-R release from them.
I hope that Olive Films will be the ones that release Season 3.
I doubt that Olive Films has ever issued any DVD-R releases.
I guarantee that MGM won't ever have the courage to release Season 3 on Blu-Ray.
Olive Films would certainly release Season 3 on Blu-Ray if they ever obtain the rights to release Season 3.

UPDATE: I had actually forgotten that MGM and 20th Century Fox had teamed up to release Season 1 of Flipper on DVD.
I had actually forgotten that MGM were the ones that released Season 2 of Flipper on DVD-R.
I apologize for previously stating in this post that Warner Bros. were the ones that first released seasons 1 and 2.
I now know that Warner Bros. has had absolutely nothing to do with any of the Flipper Region 1 disc releases.

Flipper is a far superior TV Series than a huge amount of TV Series' that have already been completed on Region 1 discs.
I'd much rather watch this amazing and unique TV Series than any of the TV Series' of today.

Flipper was not released by Warner Archive. It was released by MGM. Warner has never owned flipper.
When you can return a Warner archive purchase that was defective at any time I have no clue why anyone would throw away discs.
Only Season 1 of Courtship of Eddies Father was released on DVD-R. I love watching this show on DVD and many others from Warner Archive and am so glad that they released them. I have over 400 DVD-R, some 9 years old and all of them play perfectly. I have only received 3 discs from them that were defective and had them replaced. I have had around 20-25 bad pressed discs since 1997 so by your logic I guess I should hate all pressed discs because some will not play. Its been reported in a few threads that people have experienced more problems with pressed discs than DVD-R's so if you are having that many problems it sounds like either your DVD player is over 10 years old or you need to update the firmware.
Other than DVD-R's are easier to scratch there is no factual superiority of pressed DVD vs. DVD-R. Only Urban Legend.
I am personally a little afraid of this Olive release and will wait for reviews. Season 3 has not been re-mastered by MGM yet which is probably why Olive does not have it so these are most likely the same DVD transfers converted to HD.

Those are my thoughts as well. However, I have many Olive releases and have no fear about the quality of their releases, as long as the source is in good shape, and it appears it is from the previously released DVDs. In my case, I will probably pass though since I've seen this show probably three times with my kids of the last six years, and the DVD's are quite good as is. Also, we saw season three on Hulu not long ago.

Correct that Warner Archive has not and never has had anything to do with "Flipper." Season 2 was the last title in a pathetic MGM DVD-R campaign that consisted of exactly two releases overall, Season 2 of "Flipper" and Season 1 of "Highway Patrol" the latter of which was stuck on a 10 DVD release. Warner has up to now been the only major studio with archive program for TV releases that has done anything right.

Why do you insist on crapping on every thread with your disdain for DVD-R? It gets old.

Why do you insist on crapping on every thread with your disdain for DVD-R? It gets old.

(As an offtopic aside).

Some folks genuinely enjoy threadcrapping on every message board they're on. :)

It's an easy way to voice frustrations to a semi-willing audience, regardless of whether the grievances are based on "urban legends" or actual real facts.

As long as the admins allow such posts + replies of this ^ ^^ type, it will continue to happen in the future. ;)

(At the risk of further threadcrapping).

My primary reason for not buying any burned dvd-r released discs, nowadays is for reasons unrelated to quality control and/or product longevity.

The main reason I don't buy any burned dvd-r released discs, is to severely restrict my complulsive OCD collecting of dvd/bluray optical discs. I know very well that if I start buying dvd-mod released discs whether the discs are burned or pressed (from Warner Archive, etc ...), then there is a very high probability that I'll end up on that treadmill and end up buying tons of titles. There's quite a few titles I want which have only been released as only dvd-mod or dvd-r, though I'm willing to forgo them to avoid jumping onto another OCD treadmill.

I know what I'm saying may sound like a really elaborate excuse for NOT buying burned dvd-r or dvd-mod (both burned and pressed) titles. It is also the same reason I've been repeatedly saying to myself about 4Kbluray discs, so that I don't jump onto another extreme OCD treadmill. My sanity is more important to me, than a handful of titles released on dvd-mod/dvd-r or 4Kbluray.

(With all that being said).

I'll read reviews first about the picture quality of the Flipper blurays, before I buy them.

If the picture quality is excellent, I may buy them the first week.

If the picture quality is mediocre, I'll wait for the price to significantly tumble.

I agree. Everyone else is releasing complete series. It only has one more season? That is weird.
Its most likely because it wasn't available to them. Since MGM stopped on Season 3 then they most likely never made new masters of Season 3. This theory is further supported by the fact that Olive has not announced season 3. Like everyone says it only makes sense for them to release all 3 seasons at once either individual or as a complete set but since they are not the reason is most likely that it is not available to them.

Has season 3 been played in reruns recently, such as on an "oldies" cable channel?

If so, does the picture quality look like an old non-HD transfer from many years ago?

This is great news! The picture quality on the Flipper DVDs was fantastic (especially Season 1, although Season 2 was pretty great too). This series on BD should look stunning! Weird about Season 3 not being available, but we'll see how that pans out. And (of course) it'll be nice to finally dump the Season 1 flippers of Flipper!

Between this, Green Acres and the Hanna-Barbera reissues, my flipper collection is dwindling considerably. Now, if we can just get a Blu release of the original Dallas I'd pretty much be set!
