I have a 50 gallon, saltwater fish only tank (clown tang, radiata lion, bursa trigger, porcupine puffer all about 3 inches in size). I also have recently upgraded my home audio to paradigm speakers. I am actually worried about the sub (Paradigm PWS1000). How much stress will it cause to the fish when watching movies or listening to music if the sub is turned up? I don't want to kill the fish but i also am not going to return the system. How long could a fish tolerate those elements? What should be done to the stand or tank to prevent such stress on the fish (i.e. carpet padding to prevent vibration)?
    Thanks,
    Brian

This topic comes up about once every two months. The general consensus is that it won't harm the fish in any way.

I tried to search on this subject, but the search function wasn't working at the time.
    Thanks for the response though.

I have often wondered the same thing. My sub sits about 3 feet from my 75 gallon reef tank. Then I realized that the low frequency sounds from waves crashing and other natural (and unnatural) things that occur in the ocean is probably more than our subs put out. I doubt our systems bother the fish much at all. However, I wouldn't want to have so much vibration or shaking going on that it might effect the structural integrity of the tank or stand.

I had my svs set up in the same room as my 55 gallon oscar tank and 30 gallon gold fish tank(in a different room now for other reasons) and they seemd to be fine, even during really loud passages.

I've had a 50gallon reef next to a tower speaker with built-in subwoofer for several years now. I haven't noticed any problems.

I have a Velodyne FSR-15, Definitive Tech PF15tl, Definitive BP2000tls for fronts and I have a 40 gallon Salt water tank right in the same room. We have anemone, clown fish, hippotang, etc. We have had no problems other than the normal problems associated with saltwater tanks.
    Good luck.

I think my Goldfish looks forward to hearing the Home Theater these days. He looks all happy swimming around, kissing the air...seems to get excited for a fish that is! [IMG]

After a thunderstorm once, half a tank of mollies I had were dead.
There was no known power outage, and it didn't seem like the lightening caused any sort of surges, since all the electrical components everywhere in the house were fine, including the filter pump etc. of the tank. I've always wondered if this was related to the thunder, which was quite loud.

No problem here with bass and fish.
Infact we have just added a 230 gallon tank at the back wall which will be the start of our Saltwater venture starting in October.

I am more concerned of the possibility of the bass weakening the stand / glass and me winding up with 135 gallons of water & fish & plants on the living room floor.
But I think a CS-U is still in my future. [IMG]
