Wow, sounds interesting. If this is the full ABC cut, I'll be very pleased. I'm definitely hanging on to my old disc for both versions.

I wonder if the TV version of the Kirk/Saavik elevator scene is in there. For some reason I always had hunch that they did that alternate take for TV was because the two of them side by side wouldn't work well on a 4:3 screen. Meyer's commentary is certainly the most anticipated this year!

They don't go into much detail about the audio/video. Maybe it is not much different than the original release.

I just read over at DVD File that Star Trek III is getting a new Dolby Digital Surround EX mix. I wonder if they have done the same for Star Trek II? I understand that ST II is from the early 80's but it has always had sort of a harsh sound to my ears.

We just got our screener today, but with
Scooterpalooza this weekend, the
earliest I can post a review is next Tuesday,
July 30th.
We will probably be beat by all the other sites
also receiving their screener copies today, but
well, that's life.
I'll have a complete look at the DVD including
tons of screenshots.
From looking at the specs on this disc it looks
incredible!
Watch for the HTF review next Tuesday.

Ron, maybe the screener could, uh, em, "find" its way to Scooterpalooza this year.;)

What I don't understand is why they don't offer both versions on the same DVD? Isn't this what DVD technology was supposed to be for? Seemless branching?

Guys, I am working on the review as I
write this.

I am going to try to get it on-line this weekend --
perhaps as early as Saturday morning.

This is a huge undertaking as there is so much
material to cover.

I can tell you that the transfer is gorgeous.
I watched it with the aid of the TEXT commentary
which is an absolute must see tool. This text
commentary is like having a Star Trek geek sitting
beside you giving you all these little facts about
what you are watching. The text geek has a sense
of humor, too!

As I said, I have much to write (you should see
my notes - I am going to take a picture of them)
and I am going to try to put it all together in
the next 24-48 hours....why?...cause I love you guys!

Wow Ron, you sound like me right now.
I'm staying up all night going through the disc, which doesn't help with a screening of Goldmember tonight. ;)

Hats off to Ron and Jeremy for giving their faithful readers exactly what they want - its this dedication that makes their sites the best on the web, hands down. DVDFile's extremely positive review has me even more excited then I was for the SE of the first film last fall.
Add to that the fact Search For Spock is receiving the deluxe treatment, this is really a great time to be a fan of the films, DVD and or to be a complete novice to the franchise so they can experience it in the best possible way! :emoji_thumbsup:
Now, if only the Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs reviews would start popping up...:D

It sounds like Paramount made the color corrections the original disc needed. I'm glad they did a new transfer. I am looking very forward to this SE.

The review at DVD File says that there is a slight improvement in picture quality and no noticeable improvement in audio quaity, however the supplements and the commentaries are excellent.

Can't wait to pick this one up, although I will hang on to my current copy of Khan personally autographed by Ricardo Montalban! :b

My review is up.
Really worked overtime on this. The
review took me a total of 5 hours to do.
I hate reviewing Special Editions because
of the amount of time I have to invest in
the extra material. But this Edition was
certainly worth it all.
