From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment: First Man
Based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen and from visionary filmmaker Damien Chazelle, FIRST MAN is the riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong's perspective, the film explores the triumphs and the cost—on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues and the nation itself—of one of the most dangerous missions in history. The critically acclaimed FIRST MAN comes from legendary executive producer Steven Spielberg (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Schindler's List) alongside fellow executive producers Adam Merims(Baby Driver, Straight Outta Compton) and Josh Singer (The Post, Spotlight) with a screenplay by Singer allowing audiences to relive the historic achievement in human history that has never been told cinematically. Filled with outstanding performances from an all-star cast led by Gosling and Foy alongside an incredible roster of supporting talent including Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall Street, "Friday Night Lights"), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Mudbound), Corey Stoll ("The Strain," "House of Cards"), Pablo Schreiber (Skyscraper, "Orange is the New Black"), Christopher Abbot ("The Sinner," Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), and Ciarán Hinds ("Game of Thrones," Tinker Tailor Solider Spy), FIRST MAN "explodes with cinematic wonder" (Inverse).

I just watched the iTunes 4K edition. Great film, I love that is wasn’t all rah-rah and patriotic like most NASA movies, but melancholy and almost spiritual in the profundity of what was happening. I didn’t expect the lunar footage to be in 1.78:1 IMAX so my screen wasn’t set up right and the image spilled off the top and bottom of my 2.35:1 screen during the IMAX sequence.

I liked this film too, it's not "The Right Stuff", but it effectively tells its story in a different way than that 1983 film. I'll be buying the 4K/UHD disc when it drops in price. However, if iTunes or Vudu drops the price down to $9.99, I might forget about the disc and just purchase the 4K/UHD stream/download.

iTunes absolutely will within 30 days of its release. As they do with virtually all new releases.
I just remembered that I ordered the 4K/UHD disc earlier this month as it temporarily dropped in price at Amazon to $21.15 so I bought it while using some bonus points to drop the final purchase price even moreso.

That's where I am at these days with most new releases I am interested in. If the 4K stream version drops to $10 or less before the UHD disc is under about $18, I just buy the streaming version and skip the disc.

I have not seen this film yet, but am always interested in movies about the race to the Moon. I will pick it up in some form.

I am also very interested in this movie. It didn't perform up to expectations in theaters (probably because it didn't contain those rah-rah elements people were expecting). A $10 price on a UHD stream sounds very enticing.

I liked the film but was a but disappointed by it.

I guess I wanted it to focus more on the moon landing than on Armstrong. But it’s still a strong film and I’ll be buying it one way or another.

I think it’s a difficult film to love. It keeps both the viewer and the subject at arm’s length, and feels very aloof and distant. It felt at times like I was watching Armstrong float through his life without feeling that I was getting to know him.

I think there was probably a great script in there somewhere which was obscured by the directing choices.

I’ll see this again and will probably buy a copy because of my interest in all things space, but this movie should have been a slam dunk for me and it just wasn’t.

I did not like Chazelle's first two major directorial efforts, which he also wrote. I did like First Man, which he did not write. Maybe there's a correlation.
