Starting to put together an entry level home theater. I've about decided on the following:

    Panasonic Tau 36" HDTV

    Panasonic RP56 Progressive Scan DVD

    Sony STR-DB940 Receiver

I'm having trouble with the speaker selection. I've heard many great things about the Energy Take 5.2's, but not much about the AR HC6 system? Any recommendations, including the other equipment I'm considering would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Rex,

I am sure that you will get a million *glowing* replies

saying that the Energy setup is the way to go. I can not

confirm nor deny this. Your best bet would be to hear each

set IN person and then make an educated decision. I have all

AR components as far as speakers go and I absolutely love

them, but I can not say how the HC system sounds as I have

not heard it.. I can say the Hi-Res series is glorious but

the HC series may not be.. Give both a listen..

I would look into the Klipsch Synergy line.

I am in the same boat. I heard the energy system, but was a bit rushed by the dealer and it was on the floor with alot of other things going on. The magazine, The Perfect Vision, has a great review on the HC6 system, glowing actually. I like the idea of the sub size or I think I would lean to the AR's. Good Luck!

I got the HC6 for just $500 + shipping from etronics.com after reading that glowing review in The Perfect Vision.

The speakers are very good. Hard to believe you get such clear & robust sound from speakers that small. I used to own Infinity RS3's, a CC3 & a BU120 -- I like the sound on these better, but speaker preference is a very subjective decision.

    Hello,

I had both the Energy and AR HC-6 Speakers, I ended up with the HC-6. They looked better and to me they were just a little bit clearer, also the sub was by far the better one of the two. Good Luck.

Which is supposed to be better between the HC-2 and HC-6? The HC-2 has 5 1/4" woofer on the satellites while the HC-6 had 3.5". Plus the HC-2 has a 12" sub versus the 8 on the HC-6.

But the HC-6 cost $20 more at Etronics. What gives?

Rex, congrats. I expect you'll be quite happy with the HC6. They're classy speakers -- AR even includes a pair of white gloves so you don't get your fingerprints on the black piano finish speaker casing.
