After a considerable amount of research,
I am VERY close to making all of the purchases for my HT. I just discussed the components with my parents, and they OK'd most of them!!!
This is the setup:
32" Panasonic CT-32SF36
Panasonic RP62
Axiom M3Ti Mains&Surrounds
Axiom VP100
SVS 25-31PCi (possible Hsu VTF-2, dad's call)
Denon 1802 (possible 2802/yamaha rx-v1200, " ")
Sony SAT-T60 DirecTiVo
What are some DVD's that will KNOCK their socks off (while still being good movies)??? I really want to show them a good thing, and that i found it for them :)

Man you can't go wrong with either Star Wars Episode 1 or Jurassic Park. The collector's edition in DTS surrround sound. I have both and as far as sound goes, I would have to rate them up at the top of my sound list.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your setup.
You would probably get more responses if you post this in the SOFTWARE area where it belongs.
Good luck.

I don't know what kinds of movies your parents like but you can't go wrong with:

-Gladiator (great all-around presentation)
-Saving Private Ryan (amazing directional effects)
-Toy Story 1/2 (great digital-to-digital transfer)
-Fight Club (great video, VERY agressive surround mix)

Perfect video (from the digital files) and perfect audio. While the audio isn't bombastic as SPR, the mix is excellent. There's some great subtle effects that really enhance the presentation.

Without question, The Haunting in DTS is a marvelous choice. The sound will give your system a workout.
Moulin Rouge also in DTS had my jaw on the floor not just with the outstanding sound but the intense, color-saturated visuals. Je m'adore!
Definitely SW:TPM , the pod racing sequence can knock the china off the shelves. It's fun and even if you didn't think much of this outing at least it's Star Wars on DVD.
Saving Private Ryan is good too but it still doesn't create the impact of real gun shots. I don't think any sound capture device can, yet it is outstanding if sobering. The picture though isn't showcase because of Spielberg's cinematographic choices.
I'm sure others will ring-in with other outstanding choices but, for my sheer delight, Jurassic Park , still can't be beat. It's pure popcorn entertainment in every respect and I think best synthesizes sound, content, and visuals in the definitive home theater experience.
Congratulations on your new HT!
