I'm not sure where post this but the first 5 Planet of the Apes films will all be shown in new 4K restorations at the Quad Cinemas in Manhattan. Will 4K discs and streaming of these films be coming soon?

Hoping they will show up on iTunes in 4K soon. 4K Fox films are numerous there. Day the Earth Stood Stood Still.. looks fantastic!

The Quad Cinema - for those who find the screens at the Film Forum too large.:)

The chairs are much more comfortable at the Quad, at least! Though I haven’t been to FF since they reopened this month.

I did see a new 35mm print of the first movie at FF back in 2011 and it looked spectacular, I think it had been sourced from the 4K restoration.

I just want physical disc copies in UHD. That is all that really matters to me. I'm sure these won't play near me in a theater near me so bring on the home video HDR versions...with Dolby Vision, and Atmos.

A friend went to see the CHINATOWN 4K at FF a few days ago. He said they were keeping volume at a lower level to not interfere with the other theaters. He called it Whisper Chinatown.

I'd like to see a nice new transfer of the first Planet Of The Apes, but I can't whip up any enthusiasm for the sequels.

Seats are indeed new and improved at Film Forum. Sit with confidence.

While the sequels are not in the same league as the first film, they still have a special place in my heart. I grew up watching "Apes Week" in the 1970's on the local ABC affiliate -- WXYZ-TV Channel 7 in Detroit. So, I would buy all five films on UHD to upgrade my BDs -- provided there was a noticeable improvement in the transfers.

I enjoyed the first three...It works well as a apocalyptic trilogy. I just noticed that all 9 "Apes" films are going to be released on Blu in Oct as a box set....perhaps they are 4K? BluRay.com post does not say...

It is the 50th anniversary of the original film, so I would like to think it would be something special like an all 4K release.

EDIT:
Never mind. Fox squandered the opportunity. What a waste.

In 1973, some college friends and I spent a day watching all 5 Planet of the Apes movies back-to-back at a local movie theater. It wasn't UHD, but it was an ordeal!

Is this still the case ? I know the Quad renovated about a year ago. This remains one of the few movie theaters in Manhattan I have never been to (and that's in over 40 years of movie-going)

Yes, I'm told it's the same screen sizes as before and the same issue with people's heads in the projection beam if they stand up.

I must say that their programming has been excellent.

No question about it. I wish I could have seen some of the Hammer festival - at least the non-faded 35mm stuff - they ran this spring, but couldn't justify the expense of the trips in & out of NYC while paying for single feature tickets.

I went there once. I was trying to see the Harry Dean Stanton film "Lucky" but after I bought my ticket, I was informed that the projector "melted" (that doesn't sound good!). Rather than take a refund, since I was already there, I instead saw a repertory screening of a 35mm print of David Lynch's "Wild At Heart". The print itself wasn't in the best condition but was presented as well as possible.

I wasn't in love with the room. The seats were new and soft, and yet, somehow not entirely comfortable. Perhaps worse, it was of that auditorium design where the aisle runs right through the middle of the room, so there were no center seats. I really dislike that design choice as I prefer sitting in the center. And as noted, the ceilings are low and the projector is low, so if anyone stands up, they're in the frame. And the screens were just tiny. My home projection screen is only 100" but I can't imagine the screens there being much larger than that; it certainly didn't feel that way.

I've been really impressed with many of their screening choices, but it keeps coming back to this question: is it worth traveling 45-60 minutes each way to see a movie on a tiny screen in a poorly designed auditorium for $15 a ticket, when I can stay home and view the same content in a better environment? It's really hard for me to get to "yes" for that, but I wish it was easier.
