There is, again, nothing you can do about 1080p output. The Broadcomm decoding chip can't do it. Nothing can magically make it so.

If they had used Sigma's decoder it would have been able to. However, the Toshiba was designed last year. Perhaps if Toshiba makes a 2nd gen. HD-DVD player they'll fix this misstep.

The upcoming Pioneer Blu-Ray player can output true, native 1080p because it uses the newer Sigma chip. The Samsung Blu-Ray player seemingly uses a de-interlacer after the same Broadcomm chip as the Toshibas & RCA in order to go back to some sort of 1080p output (540p??).

Now we'll have to see what the Sony and Panasonic have on board.
