I was about to buy a Mitsubishi 55" RPTV wit built in HDTV tuner to go with my new Direct TV package being delivered later in the week. I was just informed that the DirectTV receiver isn't HDTV capable and that I should buy the cheaper TV set without the HD tuner and then add a Direct TV HDTV tuner, saving a few hundred dollars in the process. The tuner can also work with an antenna to get local HDTV.

This all sound great except for the FIREWIRE! The HD set I was about to get has firewire inputs and the sans-HD set does not. So now what do I do? Is Firewire going to bo importance in the near future? Will I be sorry if I don't have it? The Mitsubishi brocure goes into great detail about how great and necessary it is, BUT there are currently no product to connect the TV to by Firewire.

What to do?

I wouldn't put much value in the FireWire feature. It's only for control, not for picture, as FireWire can't handle a HD picture. Theoretically, FireWire could be used for a DVD picture, but that's not where the industry is heading. They are going to use DVI for digital video.
