    Hello,

I am starting research into buying a new HD television and was wondering what the firewire or IEEE 1394 connections can be used for.

The only familiarity I have with firewire is on my computer.

Specifically, I was wondering if I could hook up my computer and play audio and video files that would then play out on the television.

Could the television be used as a separate computer monitor?

I am not looking to control the computer with the television.

    Thanks,

    Ray Zak

One dealer told me that the firewire port is supposed to take place of the DVI connector on HDTVs.

Check out the HDTV recording forum at www.avsforum.com. There is software by Vividlogic called Firebus that turns your computer into a PVR. You connect your TV and computer by firewire.

It is being beta tested right now.
