With the great news of this release coming sometime October. When do you think the coverart will be availible? Paramount usually stick to the origonal movie poster artwork. Lest hope it will be a decent cover. Also, I wonder what extras they will put on it of any at all.

I am hoping for

Anamorphic Transfer
5.1 Digital or DTS (I dont have DTS yet, but getting soon}
A Crisp Picture

Making Off
Commentary
Trailer

I am asking for a lot, lets hope that we get some of the above. :)

Paramount so dts is a real long shot. Better be 16x9 though.

BTW Paramount, thankyou for finally bringing this out as well as the SE of Deep Impact.

What does bare bones mean, i assume its something to do with an empty disc,

i think if there was an award every year for bare boned discs, Paramount would need a very big trophy cabinet. :)

A release with no, or virtually any special features. Maybe a trailer, but Paramount rarely even included them anymore on catalog titles.

The only upside is these can list for $15 and usually sell for $10 (or less)

Paramount will do a WS 16x9;

Yes, at least now the Paramount, bare bones, catalog titles can be found on the cheap now. Sometimes they even go right to the Wal*Mart $5.88 bin. But it did not always use to be this way. They would cost just as much as a full blown SE from another studio.

I would expect bare bones, but maybe if it sells well enough on DVD it will be revisited one day.

There is a pretty high demand for this film. Maybe not along the lines of Star Wars. But I think Paramount will be pleasantly surprised with this little dvd.

I am looking forward to a 5.1 mix on this. Mark Ishams score will sound fantastic I reckon. Also the bit where Travis gets Zapped by the UFO, the sound is like a large metallic/synthesizer effect. A great opportunity for 5.1 mix or even DTS.

October 19 seems to be a Paramount space themed DVD day.

Fire In The Sky
D.A.R.Y.L
Explorers
Conquest Of Space

and of course

Deep Impact CE.

I am lookinfg forard to Fire and Deep Impact. Maybe Fire will get a CE treatment in a year or 2.

I love this movie. It was the only film that ever scared me when I was a kid. I can't wait to see it again.

And it's based on fact, too!

:laugh:

Granted, after forcing myself to undergo a quantum suspension of disbelief when I arrived at the theatre, I did get a few scares out of this and I thought the lead-in to the flashback scene, with the liquid running across the table, was rather well done. Overall, the film was quite eerie. Has the director done anything of note since then?

Nonetheless, I believe now, as I did then, that Travis Walton pulled a fast one on Hollywood, however unwittingly, and they in turn helped perpetuate the myths about UFOs. Wish I had his stones, man!
