I don't think so. I'm not even sure who owns the rights. The last time I saw this film, it was on a cheapo VHS release. Not a great film, but definitely interesting for fans of Bakshi and Frazetta. Kind of like an animated Conan.

I feel for you...I bought a region-free DVD player a few months ago, and for me, one of the perks is getting Fire & Ice on DVD (though I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail). I ordered the Dutch version of the DVD, which has some minor supplements. I would love to see a Region 1 version, as this was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and a guilty pleasure now. I would also love to see a documentary on Ralph Bakshi or Frank Frazetta on there. So if there's a petition, I'll sign it!

As much as I dislike Bakshi films, I'd like to see Coonskin released. It looks... interesting.

Can you even say Bakshi was an "animator?" More like a tracer to me. These were done with none other than rotoscoping of live action models going through the motions.

Even Disney animators were never that non-artistic. Yes, they used live action references for ideas on fluidity of motion, but they were still hand drawn, frame by frame sketches.

Given that, I still think Fire & Ice is a guilty pleasure. Was there ever an unrated European version given the fact that Bakshi liked racy stuff in most of his other material?

I rewatched the film recently and even though it's rotoscoped, there was more to it than simple tracing. The characters look like living Frazetta artwork. The plot is a little dull, but it's still quite watchable. Even dull Bakshi is much more entertaining that most other current animated fare.

As for COONSKIN, it's one of my favs. Uncle Remus in the ghetto. Gotta love it.
