I can only assume that this is the original and not the somniferous TV remake. If so, does anybody have any details on extras? Hopefully that wicked soundtrack stays intact as well.

    Deep discount's pre-order price is $10.33. The movie's out Feb. 24.

Two other retailers are showing the 2/3/04 release date too, DVD Planet and DVD Empire.

Whoa! UK VERSION? Sounds interesting. What makes the UK cut so significantly different as to warrant it's own side on the disc?

Seems like DDD has the best price, when you consider you can just order one disc and get free shipping on it, although the prices are a few cents lower at the other sites, which offer free shipping on higher orders.

Can't wait to get this one!

For those interested in the upcoming Fox DVD, which has two versions of the film: Charlotte Rampling's entire supporting role (about eight minutes worth of footage) was scrapped in the US. I assume this is what'll be on the UK version, which will make for an even more interesting ride.

Alright, sorry to be so dense, but Bob, are you saying that the hitchhiker (Charlotte Rampling) scene WILL or will not be on the upcoming dvd?

I have the existing R2 UK dvd, and it's the same cut as any previous home video release, as far as I can tell.

I had never heard of the lost hitchhiker scene with Charlotte Rampling but now, having read a 1986 interview with Barry Newman, I wish they would release the original director's cut. Barry said the final release cut made the movie into a B-picture.

If this is the film I think it is, I snuck into a theater showing it when I was, like, 10 years old.

Did it contain a scene with a nude woman on a motorcycle? If it did, it sure made a lasting impression on me [IMG]

Capsule review - a great road movie + pirate radio

Charlotte Rampling, I don't remember her, but would be a nice bonus

VP will go into my collection, and sit beside Zabriskie Point, if that one ever comes out

looking forward to seeing this for the first time.

hopefully Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry won't be too far behind (it would have been uber cool to release them the same day since they shared a prominent double bill)

I second Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. I believe Fox still owns the rights.

Third for DMCL! Great news! I have been waiting forever for a widescreen version of this film. This IS the R1 version. Right?
