Somebody actually considered having JAY-Z redo the soundtrack for Scarface?!?!?! What kind of coked out, braindead studio lackey would come up with an idea like that? These are sad times.....

Very well might've been Jay-Z's idea. The film's exceedingly popular with the hip-hop crowd, and he might've wanted to give it a shot.

Personally, if they put out a version with a new soundtrack, I couldn't care less as long as the original remains available...

I am absolutely for this movie, and let's hope they bring out the original version as well
There is no "as well" involved. As I stated earlier in the thread, DePalma refused to allow Universal to have a new rap soundtrack created. There will only be one version of the film released.

I think he's talking about the original 1932 version of "Scarface" starring Paul Muni, which for my money puts De Palma's film to shame.

I thought this rumor was laid to rest, as Jay-Z was working on a totally unrelated project titled "Son of Scarface" or something like that.

Jay-Z was working on a collaboration album with another artist/group called Scarface...maybe this is the source of the confusion?

Remastered "Carlito's Way" and "Scarface" would both be very welcome, and would go high on my to-buy list.

Give the old Depalma movies the respect they deserve!

PS; Universal also put the original "Charade" as a bonus onto the "Trouble with Charlie" DVD, so maybe the original "Scarface" could join the 1983 one if they decide to continue this practice?

Yes it would seem that if the rumors are true we will see these special editions this year:
Scarface (Oct. '03?)
Goodfellas (Nov. '03)
Mean Streets (Nov. '03)
Once Upon A Time In America (R2 June '03, R1 to follow?)

And if were lucky, one day, hopefully soon:
Raging Bull (w/extras & for those that slept the 1st time)
Carlito's Way (anamorphic w/extras)
Deer Hunter (anamorphic w/extras)
Heat (w/extras)
Dog Day Afternoon (w/extras)
Casino (w/plenty of extras)

speaking of thirties gangster flicks, when the hell are they gonna release a Public Enemy & Little Caesar 2 pack. There both owned by the same studios, would work. They have to release a lot of the classics soon.
