After years of waiting, the little seen underrated suspense classic, Anthony Waller's Mute Witness finally arrives from Columbia on August 26.

Imo, it's one of the best suspense films I have ever seen with practically non stop
    thrills, shocks and yes, suspense!

For those of you not in the know, it's a low budget suspense/horror film shot in Russia about mysterious goings on during the shoot of a low budget suspense/horror film shot in Russia![IMG]

Marina Sudina, a Russian actress who doesn't speak any English in real life, play Billy Hughes, a mute woman who may or may not have seen something terrible. A great performance.

The DVD will be anamorphic widescreen with the only extra a trailer. Retail price is $24.95.

    Highly recommended!

    *edited to reflect corrected price.

Outstanding! This is one of my dwindling "Must have but not released" list.

Great suspense, some good use of the atmosphere and locations, and some fun connections to other suspense and horror films.

An anamorphic DVD was all I could hope for, so you can count me in.

I've been dying for a copy of this film, but the old LD is misframed to 1.85, so they'd better get it right this time.

When I first saw this, even in crappy P&S, the first half alone had enough suspense for five films. Too bad the last half couldn't live up to it...

I thought that 1.85:1 is the correct aspect ratio. I also have the Laserdisc, which indeed had a terrible transfer. The credits at the end of the film are so blurry they are illegible. I'm sure
that this DVD will be an improvement.

According to the director, the film should be 2.35:1.

The parts of the film that feature the mystery guest star were shot (ten years earlier) in Academy ratio, and then reformatted, incidentally!

When I saw this film in the theater, I thought it was 2.35:1 but just assumed that I was wrong when the 1.85 LD was released. Hopefully they will get it right this time.

I remember that story too about the "mystery guest star" Julian. I believe he did it a a favor for the director.

I've been hawking this movie to anyone who'd listen for the past few years.

I thought it was some Hidden Treasure, but serious scare fans seem to already know alllllll about this one.

Great news on the DVD release! Can't wait to see it again! [IMG]

This is one of the few videos I've not been able to replace yet, and I'll certainly do that coming August. Thanks for the heads up. [IMG]

I know this isn't the movies section but:
Is there a plot hole (size: Grand Canyon) in this movie or did I miss something?

When the police arrive at the movie set to investigate whether or not a snuff movie has been shot, why don't they just ask for the "actress"? I mean, if she's not dead and dumped somewhere, she should be walking around somewhere and be pretty easy to find, shouldn't she?

    Mark,
I think the "demonstration" they give with the weapon was reason enough for the police to believe their story.

Well, it's not the first time that DVD File gave out the wrong info[IMG]

Still, it should be available for at least $19.95 or less. Still a great bargain for an excellent film.

Received my copy this morning. [IMG]

Too bad there aren't any extras, not even a trailer. Oh wait, there are three trailers for other movies.... [IMG]

But who's complaining, I'm glad to finally have this one. [IMG]
    And it's funny too:

    "Bad-man-wants-to-kill-me."
    "Batman?!?"
