Okay, so I have a brand new TV on the way to my house and can't wait for it to get here. Right now, I just plug my old PC speakers (Logitech Z-2300 2.1 setup) to watch movies and play video games on. But, as of late, I'm really wanting to get an actual surround set up. So here goes my wishlist:

Reciever: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DH540-Channel-Receiver-Black/dp/B00BHC7ZT4/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379280434&sr=1-3&keywords=surround+sound+receiver+5.1
This is a 5.2 channel setup, 200W, 6-16 ohm impendance

Left and right channel front speakers : http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SSF-5000-Floor-Standing-Speaker/dp/B000OG4E1G/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379283314&sr=1-3&keywords=sony+ssf
These are 3-way, floorstanding speakers at 150W and 8 ohm.

Center channel speaker: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882117404
This is rated at 130W and 6 ohm. (Quick question, is it okay to run a 6 ohm speaker while others are 8 ohm on the same receiver?)

Left and right channel rear speakers: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-B3000-Bookshelf-Speakers-Black/dp/B000OG6I6A/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_z
These are rated at 120W and 8 ohm. Also, is it reasonable to use these speakers as rear channel speakers? If not, could someone maybe direct me to some better ones within the same price range?

Subwoofer: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SA-W3000-Subwoofer-Each-Black/dp/B000OL22T2/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379283538&sr=1-2&keywords=sony+ss+subwoofer
This is rated at 200W RMS and 180W Peak Power Handling and 6 ohm. I've seen somewhere that it's fine if the subwoofer is at a different impendence but I'm unsure if that's true.

But, if anyone could give feedback or answer just one question of mine that would be verrrry appreciated! Thanks so much!

Tanner

Speakers themselves are not a "constant ohm load", so the question of "varied ohm speakers" is a moot point.

The subwoofer is self-powered. Therefor the fact there is an "ohm spec" is completely pointless.

I wouldn't buy that Pio center. Search Ebay for the correct center, or buy this...
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-CR3000-Channel-Speaker-Package/dp/B000OG88NQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379285212&sr=1-1&keywords=sony+ss+center
and find something else to do with the extra two speakers.

And, AVR wattage ratings are meaningless. Speaker wattage ratings are meaningless.

Just to be crystal clear on your first point, it'll be okay to hook up the varied ohms on the same receiver and it won't wear down the receiver over time?

Also, what do you mean by the "extra two speakers"? The Sony bookshelf ones? I'm trying to find different rear speaking but haven't found any luck.

No, the 6 ohm "center" load vs 8 ohm "rest of the speakers" is meaningless.

Sony no longer sells the SS center speaker by itself. The center/surround package includes a pair of speakers that suck. The speakers you chose already are fine. Every speaker you could ever find is fine for surround duty. You could use 2 pairs of the 5000, if you wanted.

I'm gonna head to eBay now to find the center channel then, didn't think of that. I'm usually a stickler to keep things like this all in the same brand, just to be sure it works properly. Thanks for the info!
