Well, it's done. Wrote the check, shook the hand, and I'll have the system here next week sometime.

Here's the rundown:

RPTV - Mits 73" WS373909
Receiver - Denon AVR4802
DVD - Denon DVD-2800
Speakers - Definitive BP3000TL (2), Definitive C/L/R3000, Definitive BPVX/P (2)

So, umm...how'd I do?

Personally, I liked what I heard and the sales guy was able to talk me away from the Elite's to go with the Denon's. I dunno...I'm still floating back down I guess....oh well, can't wait to see it in the living room. I'll probably wet myself.

You bought all that and didnt spring for the Denon 5802(or whatever teh model number is)? You should be ashamed!

Kidding of course, looks like you are on your way to a reference system, just dont forget to get the set ISF calibrated my friend!

Well, he did express that he was selling me a lower end model of the Denon, but with all it could do, it seemed hardly a factor. Both would work great for me, but the 4802 wins in the price department.

Speaking of ISF...is there an ISF locator on the web somewhere? From what I have heard, only one lives in my state...an hour & a half away.

Go back to where you bought the system, they might have a list. My local Hi-Fi shop does the calibrations, although I dont know how good they are.

Congrats on the system though

Well, where I bought it from does calibrations as well, though they aren't anywhere near certified by ISF. I'll give them a call here soon and see what i can find out.

Well, it may be a great setup, but I am already worried about the DVD player.

Apparently the Denon DVD-2800 has that "Chroma Bug". Well, the 2800 MK2 fixed the bug, supposedly and it's only about $50 more.

Here's the other problem. I checked the Denon website and it has the 2800 listed with a far less price than what it was sold to me for. Then again, he did knock off about $400 on those speakers. I think I'll be satisfied with the player so long as I get the upgrade, but it sucks to see the price already down on the player as well. I suppose it's an okay compensation what with the low price on the speakers, but anyway. Just thought I'd vent.

Jay,
You will enjoy the 4802. My brother bought one a couple of months ago and I installed it. The remote sucks, but everything else will be a thrill for you to see and watch. I was real impressed and my brother has been very happy with it. Plan on buying a nice universal remote though.
BTW, that's a big TV. ;)
Peace,
DM

Correction....I just talked to the sales guy I bought all my stuff from and he did sell me the Denon DVD-3800. They didn't have it in stock nor did they have any reading material on it as well so he gave us the 2800 flyer instead...hence my confusion. Sorry about that.

Great system Jay! Very impressive "entry level" setup ;)
Definitely get the ISF calibration done, but wait until you have the set broken in (100+) hours. Until then I would recommend Video Essentials or AVIA to tweak it.

"Entry Level"....does that mean I went low-end just to get started? Cause if it does....damn, I thought I was getting pretty high-end stuff there.

trust me, you got high end. Everything you got makes many people on this forum envious(at least me.)

Well Jay
I think you did good. The Denon avr 4802 is better than the Elites perhaps an Elite dvd Player would sound and play a little better (and I say might) than the Denon avr 2800 but It's not enough to worry about.

Actually...after checking with the sales guy, he confirmed that I was sold the 3800 model on the Denon DVD player. Not that it'll beat out the Elite, but for what the two can do and what I have...it's good enough for me.

Jay - I just want to clarify that my "entry level" comment was purely in jest! That is one hell of a system and it is definitely NOT "entry level" IMO (unless you are Bill Gates!)

Remember, HT shouldn't be measured by how much you spend, it should be measured by how much enjoyment it produces! Just my opinion of course...

I kinda thought it was in jest, but I am so new here and to the world of HT that I wasn't really sure. I've only been able to educate myself on the things I was looking to buy in the first place. Now I am looking into some "bass shakers" that CraigM posted about over on The SPoT.
