Kino’s Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema XXI brings us three titles from the Paramount vaults, one from the studio and one each from Warner Bros. and Allied Artists (which the studio holds the rights to the latter two titles). First, Gary Cooper is sent into Nazi-occupied Italy to retrieve a scientist working on the German version of the atomic bomb in Cloak and Dagger. Next, Lee Marvin is a short-order cook in a seaside greasy spoon diner working as a spy stealing national secrets in Shack Out on 101. Finally, legendary tough guy James Cagney steps behind the camera for a remake of Graham Greene’s This Gun for Hire, Short Cut to Hell. Cloak and Shack are returning to Blu-ray here, while Short Cut to Hell is making its Blu-ray debut here.
