Since the last soccer video game I've played was like for the Commodore 64, was thinking about this for the X-box? Any reviews and comments from the HTF crowd? I've done some searches here and at the usual game websites and it all seems fairly positive. It's an EA title and they've done other FIFA games so I figure this is problably just updated for 2002 and improved over before. Any comments?

I noticed on EBWorld, there is another soccer game called Red Card Soccer on 6/3.. any comments on this too while we're on the subject?

Red Card Soccer is the equivalent of NFL Blitz.... It's not a 'regular' football game.

The FIFA World Cup games are nowhere near as good as last year's update... I'd go for that (for cheap) on the Xbox.

On the PS2, ISS Pro Evolution Soccer is king - has this made its way to the US in some shape or form?

Brian-There was never a Soccer game released for the X-Box before World Cup. While I agree that World Cup 2002 is a WEAK game (In that it ONLY contains the World Cup, no league play) you should get it ONLY if desperate, Im waiting for FIFA 2003, Hopefully they will stop this fucking charade and just let you play the world cup as well. Champ manager has both, why can't FIFA?
Also, ISS Pro Evolution IS the name of the game in the US :) In Japan, Konami calls that game "Winning 11" it will be coming to the X-Box as some stupid MLS game which I heard is TOTAL hud. People may call FIFA arcadey, but it's a LOT more fun than the other games, and fun is the name of the game. It's not like Virtua Striker or anything, although they have a SUCKY formation setting where you are locked into what they want, you cant place players where you want like in Champ manager, hopefully they change that this year.
In short, Jay, only pick up World Cup if you are DESPERATE, otherwise wait like 3-4 months for FIFA 2003, it will have the same engine anyway ;) (Thanks EA! You guys suck a mean one)
Honestly, I would LOVE to get into one of their focus groups, I had participated too much so I wasn't allowed into the Madden 2003 group this year, which is a SHAME because I play the HELL out of Madden.

I cannot find any game on GameStop, EB, Amazon or playstation.com that looks remotely related to the PES series. Got a link? The only Konami football games I can find are "MLS Extra Time" versions.

Brian-
Sadly that is how they label them in the US. It's called PES in Europe (It was called PES on the N64) and MLS Extra Time in the US, it's the exact same engine, Ill find a link which details all this shortly :)

That's what I wanted to know, Larry. I was told they /weren't/ based on PES, but on the ISS engine instead. It's an important difference...

"Winning Eleven 5 will be called Pro Evolution Soccer when released in Europe, November 23 (and is the Konami soccer game closest to ESPN MLS Extra Time for the US market)"
Link Removed
" Because while the Japanese received Winning Eleven 5, arguably the greatest next-generation soccer game on the planet, and Europe appears to be receiving ISS Pro Evolution, the soccer-poor US gets the strange hybrid from Konami's Honolulu Studios. ESPN MLS Extra Time isn't just retrofitted with the ESPN license, commentary, presentation and music, it's an altered -- more like neutered -- version of Winning Eleven Five that's just not as good as the original"
I guess that is what happened, and that is a year old news.. :frowning:
I was following the David Beckham soccer for the X-Box, but as that isn't even released yet and is about a month away, I will just wait for Fifa as it's VERY hard to change engines. I tried to switch from Madden to NFL 2K2 and I couldn't do it. That's why I won't be picking up madden this year, so I can focus exclusively on Fever.
