I give the guy credit for not only having lots of talent, but for doing an impressive cross-section of indie flicks and "money movies", as well as consistently choosing 'different' roles. Sure, he plays a great dirtball, but who thought he had Ghost World (and yes, his fantastic turn in the underrated 28 Days) in him?
Here's a selected filmography to remind us all of how many movies of his we've all seen!
Slaves of New York
Tales from the Darkside
King of New York
Miller's Crossing*
Billy Bathgate
Barton Fink*
Reservoir Dogs*
Rising Sun
Twenty Bucks
Ed and His Dead Mother
The Hudsucker Proxy
Airheads
The Last Outlaw
Pulp Fiction
Living in Oblivion*
Billy Madison
Dead Man
Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead
Desperado
Fargo*
Trees Lounge
Escape from L.A.
Con Air
The Wedding Singer
The Big Lebowski*
Armageddon
The Impostors
Big Daddy
Animal Factory
28 Days*
Ghost World*
Final Fantasy
Monsters Inc.
Domestic Disturbance
Mr. Deeds
(* What I consider his best work.)
So basically the guy is loved by the Coens, Adam Sandler AND Jerry Bruckheimer.
My mother absolutely adores him. She calls him the "Conair Guy" and likes him because he's the 'sweet homely kid that people were mean to.'
I think he's easily one of the best character actors on the planet. His presence alone makes a movie worthy of a look. Buscemi's been in a few turkeys, but he's always worth watching.
