Ok, just picking one this time. No ties or toss ups as tough as that might be. Remember, these are your personal favorites, not the best made or critically acclaimed. In other words, if you want to choose My Mother The Car over The Defenders for the 60's, have at it. Enjoy.

The impossible task to achieve. Anyway, let’s try it.
Keep in mind that beyond the Silver Age (60-70's), I ceased to follow anything on the tube.

Fifties: Alfred Hitchock Presents
Sixties: Mission: Impossible
Seventies: The Streets of San Francisco

I can't remember what I added for the 70's, if anything. Back in the summer I got a Roku and started binging Starsky and Hutch. Then when my son was over for Thanksgiving, due to his love for classic TV, I introduced him to it. I'll have to say that is now my favorite for that decade. Now the 60's hasn't changed and Constantly Being Stalled needs to get off their "do nothing" and finish up Jed and his kin!

My younger self would have thought:

1970s
- the original Battlestar Galactica

1980s
- the original Magnum PI
- the original MacGyver
- the original Knight Rider
- Dukes of Hazzard

1990s
nothing

2000s
- CSI franchise

(Only original first-run shows I actually watched back in the day. Excluding reruns.)

1990s
nothing

For context, there is a big reason why I stated "nothing" for the 1990s.

During the 1990s, I did not always have a tv at home for various time periods varying from months to over a few years.

One time the tv screen was kicked in and the remains were thrown out the window and over the balcony, during a wild party. I didn't bother buying a new tv at the time. (I had other priorities/problems to deal with at the time, where watching tv was extremely low on my priority list).

As a result of many such incidents, I was not able to watch many 1990s era tv shows consistently. Not even the news.

Sounds like a memorable party!

1950s: Peter Gunn
1960s: The Defenders
1970s: The Rockford Files
1980s: Berlin Alexanderplatz
1990s: Dekalog
2000s: The Wire
2010s: The Expanse

The question didn't specify they had to be American shows, but in case that's what was intended, change 1980s and 1990s to:

1980s: China Beach
1990s: Twin Peaks

One comment on Frank's OP:

90's - Weakest decade in TV history IMO.

I'd say it was the 70s.

Why do you think the 70s were the weakest decade? After all, several of my favorites came out of that decade (Barney Miller, The Bob Newhart Show and The Streets of San Francisco).

Obviously, it's not the weakest for you! :)

Anyway, the reason I think it's the weakest is that the 70s has fewer shows I was interested in watching then -- or now -- than any other decade.

I see! It's just like chocolate and vanilla, I take it (different strokes for different folks, the saying goes).

Depends on the genre. I personally think the 1970s far exceeds the 1990s in terms of the quality of sitcoms, but for animation, the 1990s win hands down. For prime-time drama, I'd honestly say the 1980s was better than either of them.

Scifi shows were also great during the 1990s, compared to earlier decades.

This was tough. I had multiples, but I narrowed them down. There are so many I want to list, especially from the 60's.

1950’s:
The Honeymooners

1960’s:
Star Trek

1970’s:
Space:1999

1980’s:
T.J. Hooker

1990’s:
SeaQuest DSV/2032

2000’s:
Star Trek Enterprise

2010’s:
Human Target

2020’s:
Star Trek Discovery (granted, the pickings are SLIM)
